What's it worth?

Happy Christmas LincsMoparMik.

I will be moving to Boston in the New Year to be with my fellow Moparmen there.
I've lived in London since the 50's and seen lots of changes indeed.

Its was hard driving my Mopars in the 80's and 90's tin London town and gave up myself.
People would block the road in front of you and get out waving their fists and obscenities!

Hate to think what its like now, and Polara David said driving a 512ci Mopar at 20mph was a mare!
Yes he could take the Polara to Yorkshire but has grown out of that scene himself.

On the subject of Dave Billadeau a top bloke indeed, but we are more than capable of building engines and trans in Kent too lol.
I just scrolled his site and its mind-blowing stuff indeed, he sure has done well for himself this century.

Your quite right I dont like to drive in London either, wouldn’t like to live there either I do go frequently in the works Vito and always glad to see the M1 North after suffering the M25 usually.
I am from Yorkshire only recently moving to Lincolnshire.
London has brought its problems on itself you would have thought that they would have had enough of ayatollah Sadiq after the first five years but they went and voted him in again!! Although when you drive through London it’s no real surprise - not sure if there many real Londoners still there.
Merry Christmas!

Hamtramck is the same way.

Merry Christmas to all in Moparland where ever that may be!
London has become it's own worse enemy, full of car haters... :mob:

So sensible folks will vacate the 'smoke' and reside in beautiful Lincolnshire.
Open straight rods with no speed camera's, speed bumps and '6 foot 6 inch' width restrictors!!!

Some too narrow even for an A-body let alone a C-body:rofl:

London Oilpan wrecker!
These have caught me out MORE THAN ONCE...:wtf:

Speed camera's and 20mph limits, it's the end of sane motoring in London.:elmer:

What is the idea behind the 6'6" rule? Is it for old Roman roads? The oil pan wrecker speed bump or sleeping policeman is designed to keep the Low Rider crowd out of town?

All sleeping poilcemen do is catch out normal folks, whereas the 4 x 4 cars fly over then at crazy speeds!

They are called Chelsea tractors and all the rich Mum's take there children to school in one.

Most of us in the 60's a 70's got the bus to school and were never chaperoned like todays kids.

Back to the topic of ''What's it Worth''?

I texted Polara David and asked him to give me a price, but no reply.

I will wait till after Christams and offer maybe £8000 which is around $10,000.

Merry Christmas one one and ALL.

Five hundred and twelve cubic inches of Mopars finest!

School bus? I walked until high school and then had to take the city bus to school. Had to pay a quarter each way too.

Here's a major difference in school bus versus city bus besides cost. If you screwed around on the city bus, they'd pull over and kick you out and it didn't matter where you were. I rode through some really bad sections of the city, and it was a long walk, so we behaved ourselves (mostly)

The little darlings won't walk and getting on a Bus is alien to most kids these days!
( I was born in Chelsea and visited the Chelsea cruise many times)

The Chelsea truck Company, how times have changed indeed... :mob:

I think the $12K in the UK is a buy! Considering if you bought that in the US in that condition, and then did the UK requirements for road use, Customs, MOT and such, you'd be in it for $20K or more, as you know. To me, at $12K and the car is already UK -legal, sounds like a good deal.

Well said Patrick and a happy New Year to you and your Mopar!

Building and fitting the 512ci engine was a truly magical time for me and David.
Its a real shame that life has got in the way for him and his lovely Polara...

I was hoping he was able to get his Mojo back after Covid, by alas no.:drama:

I will carry on the good fight on his behalf on the lanes and byways of Kent UK...:thankyou:

Looks like a clone of my 1966 Polara I bought a couple months ago. My Polar is all original with only 51,000 miles. All I have found is dry rot of rubber lines under hood & windows are manual & are tough to roll up. What's it worth? When I got my insurance for the beautiful Dodge. Hagerty gave a high as a original in excellent condition. $32,000.00 Good condition $10,000.00. I went the purchase price of over $15,000.00 for now. Going to send Hagerty more photos & details of the Dodge. Exhaust needs replaced in near future & some minor drivability issues like power brakes.

Happy New Year Hottody!

Loving the Polara and in great condition indeed.
I forgot about Hagerty valuations and nearly always 'on the money'.

We fitted 'Scarebird' Ford power discs to David's Polara and they were a very good modification.
Struggled with the exhaust, so had a stainless steel system made from scratch.

Your engine compartment reminds me of Davids and it actually had working Aircon.
But we lost the gas during engine updates and couldn't get it recharged again.

My thinking is return David's to a hipo 383ci, as it was a worn out Lowpo 383ci when we stared.
Best wishes to you and your car in the coming years.:thankyou:

I just checked the Scarebird site and I think its changed the rotors and calipers!

This kit will fit 14'' rims, (the kit we had was for 15'' rims.)
1977 Cordoba rotors and 1999 celebrity Calipers.

I've done a lot of research into fitting an ~11" disc brake behind a 14" wheel. It's not easy. And I haven't found a combination that fits yet.
It's a tight fit, so every change in dimension of 1 component cascades into all the others.
I've gotten 6-7 modern-car rotors, and an 11" early-B-body rotor (which fits the 69-72 C-body spindle/bearings), and each one makes a fitment issue.
Granted, I am using the GM D52 caliper - due to its availability and 3" piston. I want to put the larger caliper (and larger pad) on due to the smaller-dia rotor (vs standard C-body 11.75" rotor).
I would like the brake performance to be equivalent to OEM discs if possible.
Ultimately, I need about 1/4" more room inside the wheel (diameter), or a wheel with unusual backspace. (and a wheel spacer doesn't get me there).
(so - that's my story)

I looked at this particular Scarebird kit about a year ago.
The '77 Cordoba rotor is 11.75" dia, same as a C-body. (but it has a thinner braking surface)
So they are using a Chevy Celebrity caliper, which has a smaller piston, and is a small-car caliper. Piston sizes are 2", or 2.5" for the HD Celebrity brakes (vs 2.75" for C-body).
That's how they get it to fit. (and which caliper/piston are they using?)
Smaller pistons generally mean smaller pads, so that pad flex does not become an issue.
And using the Cordoba rotor, they must still be using their 'infamous' bearing spacers.

How well does it work? Who knows? It's a small caliper but on a 'correct' diameter rotor.
What is the math behind a 2" or 2.5" piston with 11.75" rotor, what is the brakepad area, what calculations to show it will provide adequate braking?
The caliper will surely need a hydraulic pressure increase to provide the same clamp force on the rotor vs the 2.75" C-caliper.
Unless one uses higher-friction pads, but I'd be surprised if those are available for a Celebrity caliper.

I am curious if they have done these calculations vs the standard C-body 69-73 disc system - if so, I've never seen any of these 'mish-mash' companies show such evidence to give a baseline of the braking performance. That's the work I'll still need to do *after* I find a good combo of parts that fit.
