As seen in previous posts on this thread, I recently got the AC kit from AC Global, and planned to replace the old parts. That heater box had to come out, but I was hoping the dash didn’t have to too. After talking with Steve in California yesterday, he gave me and Wyatt some good advice over the phone on how to proceed and what to be careful of and what not to break, as these old parts tend to be brittle.
I want to mention here, knowing the FCBO community is probably the best one out there, and its membership is 2nd to none when it comes to first hand knowledge and the willingness to share it with others. Also for the friendships developed off this site since joining.
Wyatt and I were being careful once the dash screws were out and got ready to tip the dash back after the pivot bolts were loosened. With a little maneuvering the box came out in one piece and nothing got damaged. When disconnecting everything from under the dash a tag from the assembly line was found, hand written and dated by Brad H, on 10/08/1970. Pretty cool finding stuff like this in a 49 year old car.
I will be getting the heater core from AC Global and replace that too, knowing I sure as hell don’t want to have to take the box out again to replace the heater core anytime soon. May as well do it now while its out.
