Whitewalls with poverty caps - pics?

My old TNT Newport came from the factory with painted wheels, whitewalls, & the rare Chrysler caps. I really liked the looks. It also had power windows & seats. It was special ordered by a farmer in Fargo, ND.

It's not a C-body, and the black wheels are rough, as is the car, but I had these on my Road Runner:

The wheels are 15" x 7" M-body wheels. The setup was temporary and the tires came with the wheels when I pulled them from a 1987 Fifth Avenue. The Fifth Avenue had full wheel covers.

I will re-use these wheels but they will be F8 green to match the car and will have Plymouth Division 9" hub caps. I haven't decided whether I will run Redline tires or black wall tires yet.

A lot of the Australian valiant hubcaps were pretty average..... To be fair, the hubcaps on my 1996 Ford LTD were simply terrible - they spoilt the whole car..... Once the wheels were replaced, it looked like a completely new vehcile....

LTDs came with alloy wheels with a centre cap, took me ages to find the wheels for my DL as it didn't look right without them. As far as Valiants go, I think even the most standard hubcaps were anything but cheap and nasty, simple perhaps, depending on the model.

I don't have access to my old valiant photos, so I can't substantiate my claim. I usually had base models because I never had any money back then...I usually swapped them over for chrysler or ford wheels when I could...I recall they were interchangeable back then...

Anyone have black steelies with the whitewall/poverty cap look? Thsts kind of what I was going for on my car

A couple of years ago in my driveway with THE SAME WHEELS AND DOG DISH HUBCAPS that were on the car when I bought it new.

It looked like crap with the blackwalls about 10 years ago.

A car that can wear WW, steelies and dogcaps says a lot about the car, and the owner that chooses to put them there.
A person that calls their own shots, and does what they like - not what others tell them to do.
(I like the look)

Here's Gertrude, as she was when we first got her, w all of her doggy dish caps on then new Hankook Optimo 724 whitewalls.

Thought I had this [picture on my computer at home, but I found it on my laptop.

Here's my Parent's '65 Newport they bought new. I always thought it had full wheelcovers. Nope.

I remember these pics well, from when you posted them a couple years ago (I think). Sacramento area.... with the neighbor that always drove a truck with camper.

Those are the wheels I have on mine, what size tires are in that pic?

This WAS my 1971 Fury I. It did not come with whitewall tires or body-colored wheels. Both were an option in 1971. This particular car had only 1 option, M85 (front and rear bumper guards). It was NEVER a fleet vehicle. According to the trim tag it was an "ordered" car. I do remember growing up in the 60's and 70's there were many cars with poverty caps and whitewalls. Whether they came from the factory that way or were replacement tires, they looked good either way. The Chevrolet is the original photo before it was replicated as an NYPD RMP. It had white wall tires and poverty caps. My Dad bought a new 1973 Mercury Comet that had very few options. It came with black wall bias ply tires and poverty caps. The replacement tires were white wall radials. After that we put on a set of full wheel covers. It changed the look of the car!

The tires in that picture are size 235/75-R15.

Cool thx that's the size on mine right now, except it's white letter tires and black wheels with poverty caps. Just way too much black on the wheels
