I have a 12 bolt rear end in my 76 new yorker.Im familiar with the 8 3/4 rear ends but know nothing about the 12 bolts. My question is this, keep the 12 bolt or swap it out for something else? Eventually i will be doing a mild engine build and upgrade the whole drivetrain.Any info or opinions are appreciated.

Its not a 12 bolt. Should be a 9 1/4, some small motored c bodies did have 8 1/4. You will not break a 9 1/4 but sure grips are weak except for new tru trac.

He'll never get enough horsepower to break that rear.
His problem is that more than likely it is a 2.73.

The 12 bolt Chrysler 9 1/4 rear axles are very strong. That's what trucks have used for years. Taken care of it will do fine in your car.

12......:laughing4: ... spoken like a Chevy guy. They count the bolts because they read a ruler......Might as well say its a posi...

:poke: all in fun of course

you got it. i was raised on chevys and i built some wicked rides. I guess im older now and would rather ride comfortably in a land yacht.

I have had a bunch of chryslers with the 8 3/4 and thought those were supposed to be bullet proof.I never broke one in the derby anyway.
