1968 LeBaron

Thanks Bob for doing the chase on Irv Bishko. I'm sure Hemitheus appreciatez it too. Irv's a good guy. I've been dealing with him since he waz living in an eastern burb of Cleveland 30 yearz ago but Matt iz a more then good friend and he'z even closer then Lima, Ohio for yeah Hemitheus. Anyway git the FSM az soon az you can and don't get airborn crossin' the tracks on Pelham north or south bound 'cuz theyz way hard on everything man or metal, Jer

I've had the privilege of talking with him at Carlisle the last few years. He's very passionate about taking care of us through factory literature. I'm honored to call him my friend.

One thing I toticed is that the "antiqued bronze" dash and door panel treatments are completely off or coming loose all over. Does anyone have any experience with cleaning these up? What method and products were used/. Also what is used to reattach them?

I am no fan of bronze. I am considering CNC repopping myself a set out of stainless or copper. Can always pack the OE set away and swap back if I ever sell the car. We will see. The bronze may grow on me after I clean it all up. Looks like hell now.

Your new car is gorgeous. There are so many Crowns around. A LeBaron is even nicer.

It's all on the link I sent...under repair, interior.

All I can say is I'm glad the '67s used wood. I've seen some nice examples of the '68 treatment and I would take the wood if given a choice every time.

I am stoked about that. LeBaron, while not "Rare" which is an overused word, is quite uncommon

Thank you. I appreciate it

I wouldnt mind wood. but I cant imagine the curved sections in the door panels would be easy to repop.

I have access to some amazing African Babinga wood that would look GORGEOUS.

It's just a thin veneer so the curved parts wouldn't be a problem, they're really just flat pieces that are bent upon install.

Matt's right...the 67's had a thin veneer of walnut (isn't that right Matt) glued over a metal backing plate, then that was glued to the door grabs etc.. so I'm sure any rare wood would look beautiful and give your car an extra touch of class! I was never a big fan of the brass on the 68's either to tell you the truth. In fact, i want to redo my 67's walnut sometime in the near future. On my to do list lol

That guy who's website I linked to restored the bronze in his car. Might be the same stuff in Mr C's link, but I haven't read that section yet.

I thought that the LeBaron was actually more numerous than the Crown, but I just took the time to look it up in The Encyclopedia of American Cars, which says '68 had 1,852 LeBaron Hardtop Sedans and 8,492 Crown Sedans. (For '67 it was 2,194 and 9,415, respectively.)

Personally, I'd keep the bronze. There are several resources who have done the trial and error. When it looks nice, it looks really nice.

Congrats to your new car! I really love the color. Good luck with fixing all the electrical problems!

I am going to restore the bronze first. See how I like it. It may just grow on me.

After another visit to the Imperial (Cant wait for salt to be off the roads) I have determined that the car is 100% original and only is missing the fender top turn signal indicators.

Anyone have a spare set they are willing to trade for, oh i dunno., Money?
