1969 Chrysler 300 - emissions equipment question

This requirement to determine the emission certification for the car from the factory is new for California beginning in January, 2018. I personally think it is a half baked requirement and will probably be revised regarding older cars as more complaints roll in and the genius that is saving the world with the requirement might well figure out that cars built in 1975 and earlier can have anything the owner wants on them since they are not subject to smog check (it is not a rolling date either, like it used to be - for now and the future so far, it will be all vehicles 1975 and older are exempt). So it makes no sense to require this check for older vehicles - hopefully the Bureau of Automotive Repair that regulates smog check in this state will coordinate with the DMV and they will get this new requirement to only apply to vehicles newer than 1975.

they need a letter from Chrysler stating that the car was built to emissions standards of the day back in 1969
Here. NO CHARGE.

So the car was not produced for the US market (Canadian ordered/delivered)? That's probably where the problem is.

CT is expensive to live, but it's as far east as I can get from CA. No great weather is worth the misery of that state.

My original California 1969 Polara had nothing but the PCV valve and an air cleaner with the hose connected to the oil cap/breather.
But the California cars had specific carbs and distributors, but outside that nothing.

Early cars (1975 and older) are not exempt from being properly equipped and passing smog, only exempt from the biennially inspections.
So if your older car is blowing smoke you can be sent to have an inspection and it will need to pass the under hood inspection.

Yes, you are correct...1975. Will next year be 1976? For some reason I thought as years go by, the exempt year goes up too. 2018/1975, 2019/1976, 2020/1977 etc.

For a brief time there was a rolling 30 year rule , once it was 30 years old it was exempt. As it stands now 75 and older are exempt from the smog inspection.

Interesting sounds like another end run to try and get rid of the old stuff. Do you have a source for this info , would like to read the whole verbiage in the mandate. Thanks

Practically speaking, unless you are running a real mess, the law won't be pulling you over for an emission violation.

The lousy weather on the East coast and rusty cars isn't worth moving from this "awful" state. There is no other place in the world I would rather live. But hey, we don't need more people either. So enjoy CT

I'll throw my two cents in.

My 69 Sport Fury was originally sold in Blythe, CA by Ellison Chrysler Plymouth, my scheduled production date is 5/23/69 and it was registered to the original owners, Albert C Romines and Verba Rowley Romines on June 12 1969, they resided in Blythe, CA so I believe my car was built to CA specs and originally sold to a CA dealer who ordered it for the original CA residents. These pictures are mostly before any work was done and I believe the car was mostly unmolested when I got it.

Gas Tank is a Two Vent Tank, I had electrical tape on the vents.

Mine doesn’t have the California label but it looks like it did at one time and it fell off.

Mine also has this label on the Driver front door jamb.

My car doesn’t show the N95 code in any of the documentation but I have the original temporary registration to prove the provenance of the car.

Hello all,
I've run into a snag. The California DMV requires proof that my 1969 C300 complied with the required US emissions when it was manufactured. It wasn't specifically made for California, (I don't think there was any difference back then) so I don't know what else might have been required back then but it has the original everything (engine, trans etc) - the pcv valve and vented oil filler cap are there and working. I donlt see anything connected to the fuel tank vent line. Can somebody out there help me figure out what I need?
I've called Chrysler three times and each time they tried but didn't have a way to look up my vin#. I read about someone else's letter of compliance and the only information given was the vin number and that the vehicle met all U.S. federal safety and emission requirements...except labeling, in effect at the time it was manufactured. That was enough.

I brought the car to California a year ago and have been waiting for the permanent registration to come though. There's just this one request from the DMV and I'll be good to go. It seems the car has the Chrysler Cleaner Ar System and has the idle settings of timing etc. Anyone out there have a California car or who knows what I need to do? Many thanks!
Mine 69 has a certification tag inside the driver's door jamb near the top hinge. Not on the door but on the framing. I'll try to get a picture
