Check to see if the manifold mounting surface is flat, if it's warped at all it will never seal with RTV or cheap auto part gaskets.

Not totally true....I have put a straight edge on many manifolds and found they were not perfectly flat and still used RTV and installed with no leaks after the fact. Also my RH side HP manifold must have had some sort of cheap fiber manifold gasket and then sat in a damp environment for a lot of years so the mounting surface was pretty heavily pitted, I just cleaned it up slathered with RTV and installed....been almost 10 years and over 5000 miles and still sealed up. ;)
I forgot to mention it was the gasket at the pipe, the manifold is still sealed to the head. I really don't want to buy a tti kit for the Monaco, it's not supposed to be a money pit, strictly the lowest budget of my fleet. But if I have more than a little trouble sealing the pipe, I'll get the kit.
And the exhaust shop in town is closed, think that happened Jan. 1. He fixed our Chargers pipe this July and kept saying "six more months and I'm done" so that option is off the table.
I've had some issues getting a proper gasket for the manifold to head pipe connection of late, they kept blowing out. Think I finally found the good ones again, now I just need to get it on the road long enough to make sure it lasts......
What part brand and number did you find?
Ask me again after I clear a path to the shop.
Should have added a tunnel when the shop was built.

Thanks Brian for the tip on the high-temp copper anti-seize. Need to remember to buy that. I remember those barrel nuts sticking in the holes due to rust. I needed to clean the valve cover mtg surface to replace gasket, so I wanted to slide the exhaust manifolds out of the way. It was a ***** to get the barrel nuts out when they had rust-locked in the mtg holes. Ben

Hi Brian & 65: My 906 heads are going to a very experienced machinist. I'll have him check the plane of the mounting surface for both intake and exhaust, although, knowing him, I'd expect him to do that automatically. (Note: I drove the car that the 440 came out of, before parting it. No evidence of vacuum leaks or air pressure leaks) As far as the pipe mtg surface on the manifolds, I agree with Brian on close to straight. I'm going to clean mine up with a Roloc surface disk on die grinder, install a quality gasket, and not worry about it, unless a problem comes up. Too many other things to worry about

Not knowing the history of my hp manifolds, I got them planed for a flat mating surface. Not necessary but fid it for good measure.

What I have found is when the head is flat and the manifold is flat you can run without gaskets, just like the factory built them. Any time I do a exhaust manifold I have them surfaced flat, even the newer stuff that has MLS gaskets on the exhaust.
I've heard nothing but good about superformance but I don't see one listed for the manifold to head pipe.
