For the record......I like Dan..... He is knowledgeable he and I have spoken on the phone a few times and I had even give him an elusive part.
Anyone that's been around the message boards has seen the drama of these cars and he put himself in the spotlight by pricing them through the stratosphere. Remember 60k for the black car? The market spoke on all his cars , it brought them down to a more ....dare I say " reasonable " price. ..

She looks more like a math teacher than an English teacher. But I'd be willing to sit in on her class.......

better bring an apple for teacher then

I said it earlier, at 10 k with the parts car, it's within reason for what it is. I don't see anyone here buying it though, with the number of member projects in process already. I hope whoever gets it they treat it right and restore it to its glory and of course share the progress here.

I agree, I bet it could be purchased for mid 8's, with everything. That would be a fairly good deal for both parties.

$8,500 would be a good buy-in for that project. That gives a guy some room to ply with, without immediately being $20K in the hole.

It seems to me that he is basically selling the V cars for a VIN plate and a body code plate for the black one and a VIN plate and broadcast sheets for the yellow one so the rebodys can take place next. I can't imagine anyone in their right mind trying to restore either of those rusted hulks, at least what is left of them. Even if you tried, the end result would probably be structurally unsound, not to mention taking a ton of money to accomplish. And then if rebodied, what are the implications of that move when you put them out there for everyone to see when the histories are so well known? Then the drama really starts. I would love to see those cars restored and available for viewing again, but the implications legally and otherwise are uncertain to me. And no one has been able to tell me how much sheet metal can be replaced to distinguish a restoration vs. a rebody. What a mess.

So it should just be crushed then. Rebuilding a historic building is a waste of mortar, cleaning and preserving classic films or paintings is waste of time since they are no longer original .. throw it all in the trash or recycling yard.

Sorry if that came off harsh. I can see both sides. But if you have a pile in front of you and you rebuild it does it really matter if it's a little rebuilt or a lot rebuilt if it has to be rebuilt as long as it done correctly and the result it very high quality?

I don't agree that it would have to be re-bodied. How far would you have to go with the sheet metal to be considered re-bodied? Floors and trunk, fenders maybe, reconstruct everything else on the car with the vin and you have a restoration. From what I see, that's what the buyer would be working with. Even if you have to section in rails and replace the stub, I still don't see a re-body.

The Black car came out of a salvage yard, didnt it?

I don't get your point Dave. When I said send them to salvage I meant so they could be made into toasters .. not just moving it from one physical space to another physical space called a salvage yard with no change in physical form.

Sorry Dave I edited my response and I have no idea where the black car came from at certain points in it's life

I have watched my body and paint guy work through a bunch of rusty cars over time. Once you start repairing all that rusty metal, the repairs never end and what you decide not to repair, you may well be faced with problems in that area in the future. And even the repaired areas still have accompanying adjacent thinner metal and then you must be sure to seal well behind the welds or corrosion will just take off again. And every weld would need to be finished off with some bondo. I personally would not have a problem with a rebody if one took the basic shell from another car and used it in the restoration - we replace wiper motors, steering columns, doors, etc from other cars and that is OK, but when you swap the shell and VINs, it becomes a federal crime, so doing so would be a big risk. I understand why the feds put laws out there to protect people from criminals, but when everything is disclosed and up front, I don't see why they would care. Maybe we need some provision in the law for situations like this, but getting a politician to act on anything at all in this country is not going to happen unless you grease their palms generously.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see both these cars restored and live on for all to see and appreciate. I just don't know how it could reasonably happen without ending up with a poor body or legal risks. Maybe someone will pull it off though and I wish them all the best, really.

Dan said it came out of a salvage yard where he found it. I will wager that it never ends up with a salvage title though. Or did you have other implications to your comment?

I'm sorry but Dan has zero, zip, Nada, for sale but VINs and bragging rights. There are no cars in that pile of steel.
Yes, you can turn that pile of steel into a car and attach assign the VIN to it but you can also rebuild The World Trade Center from an address.
My cousin Haas a fragment of steel about the size of your thumb from the Titanic...

I think my comment was two fold. One, pointing out that Dan saved the car or I guess, gave it a second chance. The second was simply to show that I have been along for the whole ride on this drama.... It has been a long time. I would love to see them restored but the monetary factor seems implausible to make it happen
