No I am not, that's how it works. Your way the original selling dealer is the first or second owner, second to the builder
 
I don't think that is how it works in California. They definitely use titles here and seen many a 50's car with their original California title. If you buy the car you have a few days to notify the state and pay the sales tax. A smart seller will also send the DMV a slip telling them the car has changed hands, and to whom, in case they don't notify the state themselves.
 
If the original owner is the seller and gets the money it's one owner, at least in my little world. :)

Ha.The car had to much to drink.Hence uneven eye lid.Love that car.Prettiest of the fuselage coupes.Outside of the Imperial.So cool looking.Sexy even!! B.B
