Just as I remembered, 3.55 Sure Grip.
In my opinion folks, that’s just a little to low for interstate speeds. Been there, done that. A lot. 3.21 is...tolerable.
Want even worse? Go 3.73,,been there too. 3.91 and numerically up? Unbearable at interstate speeds! But what a take off!

Thank you! My stripped down ‘72 is surprisingly disc brake equipped already. And yes, though the 73 was a big block, the exhaust will work with the exception of the front few feet.

My Ram has 3.92 axles. I do have an 8 speed Torqueflite so the RPM's aren't screaming at highway speeds.

I had a 71 D100 with a built 318 that would wind to no end. I’d run my mouth with a 3.23 8.75 all week. On the weekend, I’d back it up with something substantially lower.

I’ve thought about it. But if you’ve got big block torque you can overcome some higher gears. Not that I have it, but I’m just making a driver here.

I played the game of trying to keep up with modern stuff long ago with motorcycles. KZ 1000’s , GS 1100’s with 1172 kits, orient express transmissions,ported heads, Lectron carbs, Got my *** handed to me by stock new bikes eventually.

Got the exhaust done and went out for a few test and tune runs. Does pretty good. I had to put a little octane boost in it to stop the knock though. Might have over done the compression a little. Oh well!

If it's not too late, make sure to grab the front spindles off of the '73. They are very desirable.

Changed the break in oil out for new stuff and plenty of zinc additive.
Not bragging but, it runs super smooth after it’s all said and done. Real responsive, and just..smooth. No hesitation or uneven acceleration. Not ate up with power, but, better than stock and more than sufficient. Exactly what I wanted to accomplish.

Thanks! A new 600 cfm Edelbrock. I’m really pleased with it.

Working on the left rear quarter. It was mangled and rusted. I made some patches and welded them in after much pulling, prying and beating to get the good metal back into shape.

I'm really enjoying the Polara project. I'm glad to see you bringing this one back to life. I've always found the front end styling to be odd and cool at the same time.

One of the first cars for sale that I looked at as a teenager was a black '72 Polara 4dr HT. Sadly, the car was really hammered and not worth considering. Also sad was that it was only 10 years old at the time.
