It would? I thought 71's started using 8.25 and 9.25?
71 is when you started seeing 8.25s light duty in C bodies, mostly small block furies, but a 73 4 barrel 400 car i would expect to see an 8.75, especially considering its a DK41. Should have 3.23 489 case, maybe even a suregrip.

74 is when you started seeing 8.25 and 9.25 as commonplace in C bodies

On the build sheet under Axle the code is 5 1. Does that tell anything? I'm not good at numbers!

Best of luck with the car… and the clean out, it looks like you got alot of cleaning ahead of you! It would be cool if you could find some history of what department it was in like a police report or some unfilled out tickets or something.
Inside the drivers door in an Arizona State University asset tag. So at some point it belonged to the college. I'm wondering if it was a campus police car? That's only a guess but it's all I got.

With your 73 being a 400, would the gear ratio be 3:21 with the tag, not the common 3:23 in the 8:75, I mean don't the 9:25 and 9:75 look the same , The white books don't have any c body axle codes.

Excellent, I have D34 being a 904 automatic, didn't think that was possible with the big motor?

D34 on a 73 tag, whether it's a /6 or 440 HP simply means automatic transmission regardless of the actual unit used. We have to look at other documentation to tell us WHICH automatic transmission was used.

Holy cow Ray! I really wish you didn't post those pictures! Now you're making me want to restore it and make it look like yours! If only I was 20 years younger!

I always presume Ray has at least one of everything.
a Few things got away from me brother and i'm outtta the acquisition business now that im an old man but i mighta grabbed this one if i didnt have one , just to save at least.. if i had chris' skill and i was younger id surely have more.:)

Emptied out the trunk and cleaned it up. Was an oily mess but all that oil kept it from rusting! Now I can officially say this car is 100% rust free!

My 73 Polara WSP U Code 440. These are the best driving Mopars Chrysler ever made.

i have /had every year of c squad (( except newport) but since they are/were different grades if restoration (some we did new suspensions on, some not) i only did cursory "seat of the pants" comparisons. couple observations: the big block u code) cars are bada** vs even other non-k 440 mopars. fast, handle on rails, 0-100-0 to 120+ all day and will curl your hair/pin your ears back. they were engine wise stouter pre-72 (when they all were high compression) obviously so as you move toward EOP of 440 they were a little less fun.

EOD, i dont have corroborating or refuting s-o-p experience on the '73's as i dont know how police spec evolved over the years. all that said, im willing to bet any U or A38 c -squad. one would know you got something different than other factory built big block civi cars of all makes. there are modified c's ( i own a couple those too)that are badder, but i generally dont pit/test one vs the other or otherwise get on these old cars. if i break it, i got no skill at repair:poke:.
