It would? I thought 71's started using 8.25 and 9.25?
71 is when you started seeing 8.25s light duty in C bodies, mostly small block furies, but a 73 4 barrel 400 car i would expect to see an 8.75, especially considering its a DK41. Should have 3.23 489 case, maybe even a suregrip.

74 is when you started seeing 8.25 and 9.25 as commonplace in C bodies

On the build sheet under Axle the code is 5 1. Does that tell anything? I'm not good at numbers!

Best of luck with the car… and the clean out, it looks like you got alot of cleaning ahead of you! It would be cool if you could find some history of what department it was in like a police report or some unfilled out tickets or something.
Inside the drivers door in an Arizona State University asset tag. So at some point it belonged to the college. I'm wondering if it was a campus police car? That's only a guess but it's all I got.

With your 73 being a 400, would the gear ratio be 3:21 with the tag, not the common 3:23 in the 8:75, I mean don't the 9:25 and 9:75 look the same , The white books don't have any c body axle codes.

Excellent, I have D34 being a 904 automatic, didn't think that was possible with the big motor?

D34 on a 73 tag, whether it's a /6 or 440 HP simply means automatic transmission regardless of the actual unit used. We have to look at other documentation to tell us WHICH automatic transmission was used.

Holy cow Ray! I really wish you didn't post those pictures! Now you're making me want to restore it and make it look like yours! If only I was 20 years younger!
