1978 NYB, 392 MILES,For the sceptics.

Add wrong size battery to the list. Should be a Group 27. Battery holdown is very, very close to the positive terminal.

Looks like damage to the paint on the left side.

Jeez! It still has the Imperial hood ornament!

Considerable amount of rust under the hood and undercarriage for a 400 mile car.

He probably took it home with him ......

No one is going to give him $25k for it.

I'm not seeing what you guys are seeing.
I'm seeing a car that was left in a non climate controlled environment for a lotta years.

Yep, and I see the typical surface rust under the hood and undercarriage when a Formal is left in a non climate controlled storage.

Doesn't matter... nobody here is going to pay 10X the price for this one. The person that does will have instant buyers remorse once they find this thread.

Obviously not but I I think the knocks are unwarranted . BUT it's a Formal , what do I know?

You know more than the average bear... if this one was selling at 5k, she would have been gone long ago and many folks would have been cheering on the purchaser. The combination of the price and the seller's visits here have tainted this poor car.

For my purposes, mileage is unimportant... and the condition does not warrant the radical pricing. I wouldn't buy at Standard Formal Pricing either, because I don't need it... but I'd be happy to see her go to a good home.

So, where is the top number? 5k? 10?
No harm in asking for the stars and accepting the moon.
Shooting from the hip, she's worth whatever your dad just paid... +/- a grand... anything else is really searching for that one guy who "has to have" the odometer reading.

Despite the colors and whatever history dad's has do you really think only a grand more +/- ? This one appears to be nicer....by a bit

Great car, nice as it looks in those two pics? He looking to get pulled over every few days? J.K.

Dave Sr. Got second with his new car.:thumbsup:

To me that Gray car is a 8k car tops. It needs some attention as they all do. The headliner is the biggest chore. They are a pain in the ***.
This hold down is a joke one wrong slam of the hood and there'll be no car to bicker about:rofl:

At least my car still has the Thermo Guard.

Back to the 392 400 mile car....
$8,000.00. And I'd still think I got flukked in the deal.
Over the years, I can count on one hand, any Formal that I would pay 5 figures for.
There was one I went as high as 13 in my solid offer.

And why didn't dad buy my NYB? The truth. It's long gone, sealed in a climate controlled prison, you can't hurt me.

But wait... it appears to have *MINT* plastic tanks, that's gotta be worth 50 grand right?

It's a shame we haven't seen any full hood up pictures of the engine bay, I would of raised the hood and suffered the wrath if any, but I suspect with the phone number on the ad he wasn't hanging around the car much at all.

And the hokey "I don't care" battery hold down and wrong negative cable plus missing cold air ducting kind of tells the whole story and we really don't need to see any under body pictures ya think?

I agree $8k is tops for current condition. He is presenting it as a pristine original 400 mile car thinking he was going to get $25k-$50k.

If he corrected the battery situation, put a New Yorker hood ornament on it, correct the paint damage on the left side, put the right stripes on it he could get $10k or a little more for it.

To me the biggest problem is that wasn't stored in a climate controlled environment. I see the surface rust in all the trouble area's on a Formal and it's going to eventually destroy the car. I bet there is considerable rust under the rockers right now after seeing the rust under the hood and undercarriage. Once that becomes a giant problem you will start to see the bubbling and rust under the vinyl.

I don't remember.....do the wipers work on this car?
