1978 NYB, 392 MILES,For the sceptics.

I need for everyone to totally disregard that $14k figure.
The $14k was used only initially to...
1.... follow past advice from many to "Shoot for the moon and see what happens."
2.... try to understand why it seems every NYB is listed in the teens.

Well, we have found out. That 14k figure sticks in people's minds forever and potential buyers immediately scratch it off their list.
Here's something that should wake you all up. In the six months, I only received one offer of 10k and it was from Australia but I didn't want to deal with the new OZ import regulations. Luckily, this was not an urgent sell and allowed me to intake 6 months of responses and become comfortable of the realistic Fair Market Value.

$7,500.00 ($9,000.00 if you are a Troll). Do NOT make me an offer. That is the selling price. It' will not go down below that until the executer of my estate says so. If interested do it with a PM only.

Carmine understands. And no, I didn't ask Jeff to plug the car. That came out of the blue.
And, most of all, I do not want to sound like "P. T. Barnum" Dan. Sorry if I do.

As far as the 400 mile one goes, it's mileage makes it as useless as an "anytime" car therefore I would never buy it. In a way it's worthless to a real NYB aficionado. It's a Trophy Car and nobody buys an NYB as a trophy except to flip it.
No I wasn't even nudged to do it... but now I am torn...

I've only managed to pull a buck thirty seven out of the sofa cushions, so I can't buy her... and now @commando1 has ruined any chances of a nice tip or commission. I'm just not made to sell I suppose :(

Don’t worry Jeff we’d give you a guarantee so you wouldn’t starve..:poke:

We treated Richard with respect, initially being dubious of his vehicle as no photos were posted, an oversight corrected by other members later.

In the end, my take is that its an interesting, specially ordered vehicle, although not worth the amount Richard seems to (a) desire or (b) thinks its worth.

I wish him well with it, regardless of whether he sells or keeps it.

Further to the above remarks I believe Richard's car "should" be worth in the range of 25 to 50 K, like a Dodge Challenger or other more desired Mopar for example, however as collectors (so far, maybe always) hold little to no interest in these types of vehicles there seems little chance of this being so.

OK, so maybe I was a little harsh yesterday. I apologize to all the members who were respectful, and kind. I was out of line, and am not trying to offend. I do however, get a little more than a little defensive, when being bashed around. I deleted any reference to this site from my ad,so, I hope that quells that. I never meant to create such drama. I would have thought all members would actually want me to raise the flag for this car, bringing recognition, and value,to the rest of the enthusiasts cars. my rationale in the 50 k price is this: if a car with 60k on the clock is worth 21k,how could my car, with only 392 real miles,be worth only 25,especially with it being the last known example.??? As far as the hood ornament goes,I will throw this out there for you to chew on: The Black one that was next to this one,a 76 coupe, also has the same ornament. So, I think we can assume, the po,liked the Imperial ornament better, and changed them out.?? The stripes are painted on,appear as original as everything else, but, according to the experts, are in the wrong place, and noone knows why. well, what does the fender tag indicate?? I have not decoded it,but you guys know how, whats the indication for the stripe?? I will gladly share the accompanying paperwork, from Chrysler in Manhattan, with a potential buyer,in person. So, lets all be friends, and accept my apology, and my car,as sincere. Also, yes,I am "flipping" it. I am sorry again,if my business offends anyone. I do for a living, what most of you guys only wish you could do,Restorations, of mostly Mopar, and buy and sell old cars. I would love nothing more, than to show this car off at Carlisle, and let the whole world give their opinion, but I dont see that happening.

Why not flood this thread with photos from every possible angle...even attach a video of your car running? Why are you so stingy with photographic information? I can get 50 photos and 5 minute highly produced video for a 20K Impala.

In other mopar circles you'd be right, a late production extremely low mileage vehicle would probably be worth/sell for 50k, alas there are no wealthy collectors attending Barrett-jackson, Mecum, Sotheby's etc etc bidding furiously to obtain a car like this or else the black car would have sold for a pretty penny, but only reached 18K. The best way to find out what it "might" fetch would be to call Mecum for example and ask, they'll tell you straight and if they can get you 50k for this car, then I'd rush to get it sold at the next auction.

Notwithstanding how nice these luxury mopars were, if I was paying 50k for a fully functional, rust-free, fully-checked out luxury vehicle I'd probably purchase a 1978 Diamond Jubilee edition Lincoln Continental Mark V, as you're right at the top of the (Lincoln Continental Mark V) tree with this one, at the time Lincoln said it was the most luxurious and best car they'd ever made.

But that's me, others have different ideas.

I’d be a little skeptical based on what I’ve read. Limited pics that can only be uploaded via text messages because the computer is wonky yet the seller can access this forum just fine. Pics can be attached here just fine and the seller claims to be a restorer yet any restorer worth his salt knows to have lots of pics from every angle including undercarriage and under the hood. It’s easy. Below is my car. Try it Richard.

The lack of pics is due mainly to my computer not letting me load anymore. I have them on my phone, hence, text request. I will have a photographer take pics of this car, when the weather permits, but these are what I have now,and wanted to share them as fast as possible. I am considering sending it to an auction. Either B.J. at the casino,in June,or ,the auction in Carlisle. I,m not in a rush to sell, but I,m not a collector either. Space is valuable, and this thing is big.

So if a well documented C body with a June 24th build date were to be found and it had say 50000 miles on it and was in survivor condition but was able to confirm that it was the last C body built what would it be worth? Would you leave it or nut and bolt restore it? Without documentation it is a $xxxx car tops with documentation it becomes ??? This is a rhetorical question for the group btw not directed at you Richard.

I wouldnt restore it,but preserve it. I dont know what it would be worth,??? There is a 60k mile car, with history and docs, for 21k,so, again I ask,my car is only worth 4 k more??? that doesnt make any sense, even for a potato picker like me. I am not without paperwork, and contact info. I have known this car,and the entire collection, for 25 years, for what thats worth.

Nice to know we are friends again.

I took a look at the latest version of your ad and there it says: "This car has the highest serial number, and latest production date on record, making this the last known 440 powered car that Chrysler built. Not the last of the run,but THE LAST ONE. I stand by that claim, until it can be proven otherwise."

Maybe you did not get 'round to reading the thread "When was the last production day for C-Bodies?" that is very relevant for your claims. There's a lot of posts there, but to make it easier for you:

- highest serial number on record: absolutely yes.
- latest production date on record: make that "scheduled production date (SPD)". Apart from the general problem of SPDs we now know that at that particular date, June 26th, the assembly was already closed for a major change-over.
- last known 440 powered car that Chrysler built: well, no. As per the door sticker you posted it was built June 14th, after which six more regular production days followed, plus that last Saturday, June 24th. So now it has been proven otherwise.

Richard, you said the car has "painted stripes"???

Chrysler NEVER painted any stripes on Formals....EVER!

Your fender tag lacks the code for stripes or the stripe delete code.
