1978 NYB New Engine.....

I like Rip's twin snorkel idea, the valve covers would look good body color, but the raised fins and mopar need the edge sanded so they are raw aluminum.

I appreciate everyone's input on the air cleaner and valve covers. I should of been more clear on the air cleaner question.

I have decided over this upcoming winter....I'm either going to strip the black off the air cleaner and powder coat it clear. And powder coat the valve covers clear too. Or powder coat the top of the air cleaner black similar to the current pattern.

So...the only question that I present to you....

Should I powder coat the air cleaner black similar to the current pattern or strip the black off and powder coat it clear? The air cleaner is billet aluminum same as the Mopar Performance valve covers.

I may consider that idea. I have learned my lesson on leaving the valve covers raw aluminum. Anything and I mean anything that gets on those raw aluminum valve covers stains and will not come off. I had a radiator hose pop and antifreeze made a permanent mess of the valve covers. I like the idea of the top of the fins and Mopar Performance script being raw but I would have clear powder coat over it to protect it and make it easy to clean up after a spill.

The last big dilemma (that I'm aware of at this point in the fabrication) is converting the A/C hoses. I'm going to call Vintage Air today and hope they can help me with the E-Z clip fittings that I need to convert the hoses and hook everything up to the Sanden SD-7 compressor manifold and to the other components. I also need to add a low side and high side ports for freon.

Down the road I'm either going to put in a 8.75 SG with 3:55 or 3:91 and just move the spring perch to the proper location or try to find a 9.25 SG and put a 3:55 or 3:91 gear set in it.

BTW, Bob. I'm loving this thread. Thank you.

It's been a lot of fun.

I can't wait to drive to the local cruises and watch the B and E guys breaking their necks trying to turn around in their lawn chairs to figure out what the hell is going on with the blue beast. Lol

find a 9.25 SG and put a 3:55
I found this absolutely the perfect setup on the 4 spd. The only problem is the gas consumption on these gas hawgs and on the highway, you keep wanting to shift up because it feels like you're in second gear. I highly suggest a Gear Vendors OD installed at the same time. Member Kip Gardner has done this installation in his NYB.

There's zero reason this can't be done by a local shop, OR... buy the crimpers and the fittings and DIY to insure it's done perfectly.

I love the 3.55’s in the monaco, even with a 727. Much better highway manners then the 4.10s in the newport. But yes, she is a gas sucking fool now... one thing I miss about the small block.

Stan, do you know anyone/where who repros the H block that hooks up to the evaporatore? Need one to finish my conversion....

Engine looks great Bob!!

What about something like these for valve covers??

I just ordered the EZ clip universal kit from Vintage Air.

Youch! $360 USD for the universal kit not including the crimpers....but I do like how they put it all together.

Yep, this car is adding up.

A friend has the crimp pliers so that is $78 I don't have to spend.

I've been getting mine from NAPA. Sorry, I don't have any numbers or anything. For some really strange unknown reason, they were in stock, both times :wideyed:
