1978 NYB New Engine.....

The air cleaner has to go please. Something more stock can be modified to flow like you need.

Is CudaChick still on the site? She’d be your powder coater.

I have local guys that use to be in the Army with me that has a powder coat business.

Really? Put a stock air filter on this? The engine builder recommends an unrestricted air filter like the one I have.

I recommend the current air filter housing or Mopar equivalent and finned Mopar valve covers powder coated body color, keep it classy.

My 2cents, Due to all the shiny bits on the engine I say clearcoat the valve covers and the air cleaner. If the engine and the accessories had more of a stock appearance to them then I would say either body color or a black finish. But due to the “bling bling” I say clear.

I have a set of chrome/polished Mopar Performance finned covers I could part with...:poke:

Yes, stock. I’m not big on all that bling and something conservative would be far better for the aesthetic on this car. I guarantee the air cleaner in my Imp flows the same as your open element Chevy special.:poke:

That air cleaner is Mopar Performance.

This engine bay has jumped the shark. To throw more conservatism into it would make it an ugly mish mash.
I think taking the engine all the way to Pro-Touring clothing is the only wsy to go.
A beautiful stock NYB until it pops the hood and give the B-body guys an eye opener.

Bob: I think a late (70-71) big-*** stock twin snorkel air cleaner with a black-crinkle finish would look both classy and butch at the same time. You could even leave the pie tin off, or to further fake out the B-Body guys, you could put a 383 Magnum tin on it.

I say never open the hood and let them wonder... maybe a nice mist of oil and some road grime to help dull the chrome so it doesn't shine through the hood... :D

If you are going to be different, then go all the way. I would modify the base on a Six Pack air cleaner to fit over that carb (maybe chrome the lid versus the orange paint) and install it just to scare the hell out of anyone who looked at it. Nobody would want to race that beast! Its all in the presentation. If you can't dazzle 'em with the bling, then baffle 'em with a little bullshit. LOL
