'69 Fury III Convertible Build Thread- Project IVY

Stan, I kinda expect it from Dave, he can break my balls if he chooses when he see's it in person, Carlisle 2014 if it kills me.

Nick

Don't worry Nick, he doesn't have the balls to say it to your face. ;) JK

Well, if you can make it I guess it's gonna be tough for me to find an excuse.

So, I've been lazy and low on funds for the last few days, but today was pay day, and I already had payed off a few people and companies (gotta take care of my bills), So I ordered some parts (nothing too exciting; thermostat, wheel cylinders, master, shoes, spring kits) and my previous owner and I sat and had a beer tonight,

I finally know the story, and reason of the Fury sitting and deteriorating, Andy had a great friend and fellow car guy that lived down the street, they were best friends, he helped Andy work on the Fury and with the parts car, he passed away, and the Andy started driving the Fury less and less, and the Fury got worse and worse (brakes and transmission), so he parked it, he last drove it 3 years ago and that summer he drove it twice, thats when he started thinking it was time to sell,

The first few guys lowballed and were jerks (I ended up running into one of them while liquidating some spare parts, he was a dick)

Then I came along, Andy liked me, and the way I looked at the Fury, (the first time I saw the car I slid behind the wheel and tried it out), Andy believed me when I said I would build 1 car from the 2, I asked him to give me a day to think it over, in that time the Dick came and saw the cars and Andy ended up after quite a while of arguing told him to F**k off and to never come back, he wanted my contact information, Andy called me and told me if I wanted the cars, they were mine and he'd help me get them out.

A day later I had both cars at my Uncles (where one was put out of it's misery and the other has been re-born), As it is now Andy has become a really great friend and he and I can sit and shoot the breeze for hours about cars (and whatever else),

Andy told me it's like having his friend back. Before the summer is gone we'll get out and golf atleast once, I was told that if I want to borrow the Vette or Duster to come get it, just bring it back with gas.

To think all this started just shy of a year ago with the sale and Purchase of 2 Rusty Fury's.

On the 14th of this month I've owned Angel a year.

Andy sent me this picture he found on his Computer, it's how I found the Parts car, He Titled it "Finding a Turd that couldn't be polished", the owner before Andy paid $7800 for this car, it was a nasty used dealer special, everything I opened up on this car was shot or half assed, Andy bought it 3 years later after the owner went in for an oil change and the Turd ended up off the hoist due to some nasty rot for $1600 (the previous owner had just put the new top on before the oil change incident), I bought it and the White car for $400 6 years later.

That car makes me think of the April Wine song "Good from Far, Far from Good"

April Wine, are you kidding? I LOVE April Wine but I thought I was maybe the only one.

Good story Nick, those cars absolutely ende up with the right guy!

Thanks Guys, I realized another interesting thing last night, I bought both on August 13th, my Grandfather passed away on August 13th and as my dad has told me quite a few times, he loved cars and he would have been by my side the whole way threw the project with his hands greasy and a big smile, my dad says I get it from my Grandpa, he ordered new in '69 a Newport Custom in F8 with a White interior, and a 440.

"Papou" was major influence in my life, too...

LOL!

No......he worked for St. Regis Paper Co. on the banks of the Milwaukee River that made paper (newsprint) for newspapers, books and magazines. He retired in the 1960's. I think the company went out of business in the 1980's for environmental reasons.

Stan, during the time of the forward looks my Grandpa had a '58 Edsel, he won it in a raffle at a baseball game, cost him $1, worst dollar he ever got suckered out of as he used to say.

Anyway found out more history of my Fury and got some better pictures, Andy and I are becoming great friends and it's a really cool thing,

He bought the car December 10th 2000, it was on the north east side of town and was bought for $2200, as Andy said it ran great, drove great, and the paint looked okay, it was -10 Celsius that day and the Vents wouldn't close, so even with the heat on Andy froze his balls off driving it home.

Andy is going to find the pictures and send them to me of my Fury back in it's hay day, before the car started getting rough. It wore as Andy said "A sweet set of Crager slotted mags"
