70 Newport Rear springs

Got it, thanks. I was half expecting to see the perches all rusty out and corroded and what not...based on other cars I've seen. Nice surprise to find good solid metal behind the plate faces.

Yeah I'm very surprised at that since it has spent all its life in the northeast.

The isolators are not quite the same shape but are roughly the same size as the old ones (on the right side). How are these pressed in? It does not seem as though there are going to "just" drop right into place..

I never replaced mine, I used the old ones.... I presume they should squeeze right in there.

I know that of little help

Well I figure if I can't find away to press the new ones in I'll use the old ones. They're are still in one piece....no cracks.

Well I knew this SOB was going to damn smoothly. Here I thought maybe I could swap one side today. Now what. Hack saw the remainder off?

You should be able to continue to rotate it out or drive it out with a punch and a hammer. Measure it and see if ESPO has shackle pins that size and have them express you TWO

Ouch! Sorry Gary! Your not alone!! Did the same with mine. Took me a couple months to get my hands on another set, as they are one off pieces for formals as well. Luckily you are already ahead with a spare set in hand. Like Dave said, I believe the new rubber should just squeeze right in.

Looking good!

Does ESPO sell just the shackle pins??

The short one looks like it's the same length as any other Mopar shackle. I didn't measure, so I can't confirm this. I saw they were pressed in and looked like it would be easy to change.

Yeah, absolutely be on the phone in the morning if they have them. If not...****.

They are pressed in and easily swappable.

I did the same thing and tried to forewarn you.

I checked what I have parts wise and I dont have any extra pins, but just about anything else.

To add to that, do not tap on your good pins. Be persistent and rotate them out. Notice in the picture that I had boogered up the threads on these pins... never had that trouble on the four cars before.

Well I HAVE to cut the snapped one out....I heated it up to make the metal a bit softer. There was no way to get the SOB out otherwise.

So now I've got to find a pin AND get it pressed in somehow. I pressed in brand new lug nut stems for the right pass side wheel on my workbench earlier this year so....i dunno in a crunch can it be done by hand???

Gary, get the top one off the spring . Take the shackle assembly and either put it in a vice ( tight ) or set it over the opening of a wide socket and tap down on the broken thread, hard. The pin is splined just like a lug stud and will go in and out as such. It appears to be harder than it really is but thats the unknown talking.

It is my understanding that the U Pull It and Albion yards are owned by the same guy. He also bought this forgotten Jem in Winslow.. It had only one Fusey in it, a 1969 Fury convertible... It had its shackles
This of course if it all comes up dry elsewhere

Thanks dave!

Well in my frustration I just cut the thing off, I didn't see any other way to remove it off the old leaf spring. I know if I want to reuse this the remnants of the old pin (stuck in either side of the shackle) will have to come out somehow. Machine shop drill those stuck pieces out maybe?

Also why does it have to be a pressed in pin there? Why not just a bolt?

There's no way I'm gonna futz with the other end. I have new rubber for that I was intending to replace the old with but now it doesn't seem worth it. That nut is most likely frozen on that bolt forever now. I don't intend to mess with it now.

Now I've got to tackle the eye hole at the other end of the leaf spring. That has been drenched with PB blaster for days but it will not budge. Gonna try and heat it up a little...don't wanna snap that too.

If it weren't for the fact I love mopars........
