70 Newport Rear springs

Why didn't you just take the nut off the top pin on the shackle? You wouldn't have had to cut it apart. It's a stud because it has a shoulder that the shackle bottoms out on to keep the spacing right for the rubber bushings.

One interesting thing I notice. The nuts are on the bent side of Gary's shackle and they are on the straight side of Dave's. Hmmmmm....

The other bolt is easy to find, I believe they even make it reproduction.....

Both those pieces there will just tap out ... FYI I have everything there in that last photo you posted if you need it.

Good eye big John....

That is exactly like the one Murray sent me

BJ not sure if I understand correctly but I initially tried to use a socket wrench on that end of the shackle. I thought the nut was turning but in fact the Fking thing sheared off that easy...there was absolutely no fight to it, zip came off.

I was able to knock out one piece..the side that sheared off....the other is giving me a hell of a time trying to knock it out. Id swear the metal is fused together.

So these pins are not repop'd then? I just need to find one (maybe two in case the other side shears off).

Thats why I said measure the pin and call ESPO tomorrow. What is pictured below seems to be under most of the non C body stuff Mopar built

It looks to me like you only unbolted half the shackle... then tried to take it apart.

The shackle pins (or bolts) aren't supposed to come apart. You take two nuts off each shackle, slide that side off and then push the shackle through the spring.

I wonder if you could remove the bolts from these and use them with our offset shackle. It would only work with the short side... but this would fix Gary's issue.

Thats correct and thats why I'm throwing out some of these photos ... to give him options. It can be very frustrating going into a job you've never done before.

The first nut I tried took a socket to sheared off with no resistance. Its all rusted/corroded together. Im not even touching the other end of it. It is gonna stay together, weathered rubber and all.

All I need are thOSE pins, if they are correct length. I did not know they were available at summit.

Heat the nut with a torch and it will come off... or split the nut with a nut splitter.

You will need to take the shackle apart to press in the new bolt.... and I don't think you've taken the other side apart yet.

Yeah... I got a torch. No I haven't touched the otherside yet

Or use a nut splitter. Under $20 at most parts stores. They are a great tool to have in your toolbox anyway.

I'm sorry that your adventure in spring swapping didn't go well, either did mine as the spring shop didn't use the right bolt when they assembled the springs. I will be calling them in the morning. here is a pix of my spring hanger.IMG_4889.jpg

Gary, don't get discouraged. Looks to me like your *** is covered by some well experienced talent.
Yeah it is Stan...if not for you guys here and the deep well of experience....I'd be sitting on my garage floor, crying, with my thumb up my butt. Yes that about sums it up. I'm no mechanic, I just love mopars. That sometimes gets me into big trouble. Either way however I gotta figure this out, it warm and nice out and I hate seeing my baby stuck in drydock.
