70 Newport Rear springs

ESPO had been selling straight shackles to C body guys until I told them four months ago they were wrong. Apparently they never had a complaint or a return so guys have been making them work.

But is it a hack or done correctly.
If MA had weird shackles and replacement springs are dimensionally the same as the old ones, shouldn't the shackles have to be the same as the originals?
Thats what I would think too. Looking at the pics and reading the article it appears as if it is successful, unless I missing something. I WOULD think they would not allow the car to sit in a correct stance. Maybe not.

I didn't get the offset shackle thing either. When I took mine off they had been positioned differently with the offsets facing the same way. I thought that looked strange so I spent some time looking for the factory position, but there is nothing out there on what is correct. I settled on opposing offsets based on a guess. Buy the straight ones and try it. You'd be no worse off than you are now.

I wonder if Formal shackles work...

Gary, I have the NYB up on the lift as we speak. I can take measurements for you if you want...

I was approached this morning by someone who wanted to sell fuselage shackles that are in fantastic shape. Waiting to hear back I want to do the deal.

I don't hold mopar muscle magazine or there articles in very high regard. I think the straight shackles will fit, and work fine. I believe the offset shackle idea was just that an idea. I don't think you'll notice any difference in handling, or fitment.

The shackle mount in that article has been changed. It's narrower and moved inboard. That is how they got the straight shackles to work.

I am going on record to say the the style of the set of shackles for the Fusies has to be where 1 shackle has to be a straight and the other side of the set has to have an offset shackle or you will have proplems. The top is wider than the bottom. Using two straight shackles will,
1. Force the bottom inward so you have a trapezoid
2. You will force the centerline of the leaf end off to one side therefore the whole leaf spring isn't parallel / perpendicular in its location.

Nice work. Lol yes that "jog" in the left side of the shackle has got to be there for a good reason.

Now all the wizeazzez are gonna chime in on the drawing....

Did you check that P/N he listed in his ad on ebay?

I checked the part number last night and it doesn't match my 70/71 parts book. It still might work.... or it might even be the supersceded number. I don't know.
