73 Monaco wagon

Bottom nut tightened. 1/2”.

1973 Federally mandated bumper guards. Note how the black rubber part protrudes. I believe 5-mph was the ‘No damage’ threshold.

Teachable moment.

I didn’t like the way the nuts were installing, so even though I brushed the threads previously with a wire brush, I stopped installation, pulled out my tap and die set and chased the threads with the die to clean them up. Also cleaned the nuts. 3-n-1 oil.

5/16 NC (“C” is for coarse vs. “F” fine) 18 thread type.

The bumper. Amazes me how grungy it gets just sitting in the carport, as little as I drive it (seasonally). Where do the bug splatters come from, etc.

Kicking’ it old school with chrome polish, #0000 steel wool (thanks for the tip, Manny!), and Tar & Bug remover.

0000 works great on glass too

Polished and installed. Re-fanged.

This vehicle conforms to all Federal Motor Vehicle safety laws applicable to model year 1973. So far as I know.

Seen today. For sale. Would make a nice addition but an RV is too extravagant for me right now.

Have not posted on here for a while. All is well, just have not done much with the car. If I take it out and get to a place where I can take a photo with it I’ll make a post.

Hello. Have not been on here a while. Took the wagon out for a drive. Getting more ethanol free gas stations around here. Liking that. We had a sunny, windy afternoon and it had rained early in the morning so the roads were free from any salt residue (from January!).

Got a tag a while back but have not painted or installed it yet. It was expensive but it’s done.

That car is like a creamy Swiss candy! It looks very good, Isabel!

Thanks for the link about the screws. I am actually thinking of doing something with plastic washers and stainless steel fasteners, to avoid scratching the radiator support paint. I haven’t made up my mind yet. But now I am glad to know where there are good replacement parts available. Thank you again.

We had a warm day and I changed the oil. It is good: when it gets fresh oil and filter.
