Batavia Downs ‘73 Newport

No quarter panels that I can see, but check out that trunk floor! Lmao

1965-73 Chrysler Newport Trunk Floor Pan

Ha! It's "19" guage too! What is that, metric? I just found another sunroof car at the junkyard! 1975 Lincoln Mark four? I think the five's started '76. Perhaps I can get the parts I need from it and keep the formal cassette complete. Everyone likes pics, so here they are. Hard to tell in the pic, roof glass has gold coating that I imagine would have nicely matched the roof when new. Locking hood release? Factory? Car is complete and could have been saved by the brave, unfortunately it's fate is now sealed. My '71 New Yorker's back half of headliner, only two bows and one false "bow". Fusey sunroof foam pad above formal sunroof foam pad. Mice were nibbling at the one spot in the middle of the fusey one.

Man you guys up North get all the cool cars at the Pick-n-Pull! Down here nothing but Beemers/Lexus crap. Was that the west side yard?

Yep, that's the west end pick and pull. I'll be going back this week to check on a certain Chrysler, and this one. And yeah, the odd "cool" one shows up, unfortunately they've usually been sitting in a field for twenty plus years and you can smell them from ten feet away. This ones interior held up very well, the underside was krusty as hell, however it didn't smell.

Ok, I got the cables out of the Lincoln, best 7.50$ I've ever spent! They are the right length, 64 inches overall. However they have plastic pivots opposed to metal ones my New Yorker came with. Possibly due to the glass roof, break the pivots instead of the glass? That being said, I would like to use the cables out of the formal cassette, which are metal and hopefully 64 inches. So I would like to offer you the roof since you need one. I know you're around 5000 miles away, making shipping high. I would sell it for a song (almost) to help offset that. I noticed when taking photos that this one has a screw on only one side at the back which would make removal of the tracks through the roof opening impossible. The Lincoln and the New Yorker luckily didn't have a similar

screw. At first I was intimidated by the thought of working on the sunroof, once understood, it's actually quite simple. Looks like the tape skipped a bit, should be 21"x39 5/8ths"

Holy ****! It’s been a year already! Damn.....

I went and got some more welding gas, and a heavy duty extension cable to get some power out to the garage for the welder.

inner quarter patch is installed, and outer quarter patch is on. It warped a little bit, but is very fixable. Started digging into the wheel arch. Hopefully it won’t be another year till it gets touched!!

Not much to report, but finished up the top of the outer wheel arch tonight. Need to tackle a little on the front edge/dog leg. Maybe tomorrow.

The inner wheel well is trashed where it meets the quarter/wheel arch. Gonna have to tackled it once I get the rear end out. I’m trying to formulate a game plan of how I want to tackle it/how far I want to dive in at the moment. Once the rear comes out, she has to stay put where it is at. Atleast I can dolly it around at the moment. May just stick to what I can repair for now on the surface.

While waiting for the metal to cool between rounds, I did some more investigating. Luckily the drivers side wheel well is still pristine, minus 1 quarter sized hole. Kinda weird, the Monaco was somewhat the same. Both cars had the passenger side wheel wells eaten up the most. Wonder why that is.

I’ve only really been under this car a handful of times. Noticed some more whiteness marks from its horse pacing days. Something was attached to the rear frame area leaving some decent sized holes. Also check out these pieces added to the frame. I’m not a fusey expert, but I’m 99% sure these arnt factory brackets. Look to be remnants of possible old school airbags or some bad *** bump stops. The tubing looks to have been cut for whatever it was.

This old girl had a TON of weight in her back in her day. The leafs are plain sacked out and done.

Soo much fun! Ran the welder out of wire. Time to call it quits.

Did get a good bit of the bad cut out from the front of the wheel well while I had the wheel lip cut out.

More fun! Have a little clean up work to do still, but am almost finished with the quarter. Moocho better.

maybe the batavia historical society would be helpful.
Visit
maybe if you mention jell-o they will be more helpful.( batavia is the home of jell-o)

Might just give that a try! Unfortunately that is the wrong Batavia though. It’s in New York. May get ahold of a historian out there though. Thanks!
