BBD - 2 barrel - rebuild/replace - Need suggestions

Wow...that's actually really good for a barge that size too...great news for me as I plan to daily my 67 in Sydney lol. And +1 with what Gerald and CBODY67 say - the AVS2 is great, I got the 1906 model with electric choke on mine:

It's only a 4 bbl when the secondaries open up, which won't happen unless you give it the beans, putting around town will be fine. The primary benefit of it are the annular flow boosters which sprays a finer mist of fuel into the engine, rather than resembling a dribbling hose like straight leg boosters do, so you get more responsiveness and slightly better fuel economy too. Holley used to have an annular booster carb, I think it was a variant of the Holley SS series carbs had annular boosters too but they seem to be discontinued. I do remember it was either you or someone else in oz that thought about a 4bbl but then decided to keep it stock.
If you do decide to get the AVS2, there are a few knockoff copies of the Weiand 8008 intake on ebay that are cheaper, I got me one of those and the build quality is pretty decent for almost half the price.
Hi Edbods - thanks for the tip - you, Gerald & CBody67 have made me see the light of the ASV2. If I get a decent tax return, that's where it will be going !!! It sounds like the cheaper version serves you well, so I'll look into that. I should admit that I only get 11 mpg around Darwin, and there are only about 5 traffic lights between my home and work. But on the open road, it's surprisingly good for such a big vehicle - but it is quite flat and I just sit on about 75.... Have a great day in Sydney town :)

Happy to help. I forgot yet another thing - I bought my AVS2 via Amazon - as much as I don't like being a Bezos enabler, they had the cheapest price of anyone selling the 1906, cost me around 750 aud.

I forgot to mention - any aussies that need a 1/2 inch phenolic spacer, check this one out - only 20 bucks including gaskets, nuts and studs + 15 bucks shipping.
Hey mate - thanks for the tip. Ordered the spacer. Probably an unusual place to start, but you have to start somewhere. Will pay for itself if the Western Bulldogs win tonight. Thanks again and appreciate you sharing your mechanical knowledge.

Gah, I forgot yet more things you'll need - Edelbrock #1481 - this adapter allows their carbs to work with mopar throttle cable setups. Been a while, I think I got mine off Amazon because again, best price.
Optional: Edelbrock #8003 - I only say optional because I was able to juuust make the stock 2 bbl linkage work with the new carb. Others have done similar, and like them, I can say that there were only 1-2 threads of engagement, but I wiggled, jiggled and shook all bits to check if it'd ever come loose, and it seemed to hold. It's pretty damn expensive for what it is, and I'm not sure where you can get the best price for this.
The throttle cable bracket will need to be bent up like below:

I couldn't clamp it down on the steel portion of the throttle cable sheath, so I had to get a steel P clamp of sorts that was already on the cable, and slide it up to the bracket so it'd have a better grip and hold the sheath firmly in place while retaining the factory specified slack. If you don't want to bend this bracket and have the cash, Mancini Racing has a bracket MREAR036 for this engine, originally designed for the edelbrock performer but I reckon it'll work with a weiand 8008 since both are very similar designs. Shipping will be a killer though, expect to pay about 100 bucks or more for it.

Update: Pumped out the tank and it was worse than I thought. After parts arrived, installed new fuel lines, new fuel pump, new sending unit and a new tank. Old tank was nasty and the old sending unit had no float attached, and no filter/sock. (That explains a few things) It had been a while since the car was started. Fired up with no leaks from the tank, lines, pump and inline filter... BBD was puking fuel everywhere. I took the Carter off to inspect. Full of everything that was in the old tank. Time to clean it up. Took apart and other than the Power Pump... it cleaned up ok.

My question for you: I asked a friend what he would recommend for swapping to a four barrel. He thought a Eddy Performer and an Eddy 600. What has worked for you? What direction should I go? Thank you in advance.

I run an Edelbrock Performer 1405, the 600 cfm manual choke one. The newer Brock, the 1905, permits 650 cfm and is AVS2. Both would be EXCELLENT choices for you. Mine has been very good over 4 yrs, and will be better with the rod and jet kit. You can't do much better, really.

Find a good 4 bbl intake. I went to the 'Brock because those OLD 2 barrel carbs simply have outlived their life expectancy, and so many rebuilds later, they just don't seal up well. I tired of constantly diddling with them.

ordered the Brock Performer Intake and the 600 with electric choke. Be here in a couple days. Everything I have read pointer to the Eddy...

Good combo. I too will likely get a Performer intake if I decide to upgrade from the factory one I use. I LIKE how this factory intake lays low though, but I want a little more performance in the low RPMs. Good luck w yours.

Single malt Scotch, unwatered. I'm a member of the Scottish Royal Whisky Tasting Society by virtue of my having been the best GNU/Linux hacker at Raytheon in the early 2000s, and their needing me for a heap big pow-wow in Edinburgh and London w BAE. This experience seriously jaded my palate for what we Gael called "The Water of Life," "uis-kgeah" or something like that. Up until that achievement, we had to make do with FTL travel, black hole power plants and such (Stonehenge was the old Control Center). After, we realized these adolescent achievements pale in comparison to Good Whiskey!

Glendronach whisky is apparently very good. I don’t imbibe anymore, but my brother in law loves that brand.
