It does make sense to me on why you dont want to rebuild the carb.
Yep, I'm thinking of buying a rebuild kit. I haven't rebuilt a carb since 1987, when I did the three Webers on my Dino.

If it is a original Holley I would not rebuild it put it on the shelf for the next owner of your car. Those old original Holley's warp badly and have internal leaks and yes I'm sure a very good carb shop can repair them but why when you can put a brand new one on and it.is hidden by the air cleaner.

I betcha that was fun.

Still have the Dino?
Was it chromed?
Was it painted?
Then end of the dipstick tube should be raw steel.
And things were going so well...
I gently ground the tips of the chrome plated dip sticks so I now have two slightly different diameter tubes. At least one of them should fit. Planned to install on Monday after Xmas. Then, Xmas eve I was in bed sound asleep when I woke up feeling somebody had shot me in the left calf. Or maybe one of our big house spiders had bit me, I could not find a bite mark. My wife couldn't either. And, I had a fever of 101. WTF? After 5 hours of intense pain, which no pain killer I had on hand would touch, my wife drove me to the ER. By that time, my calf had swelled to 2X normal and turned bright pink. I had to use a walker to get into the ER. Long story short, I'm still in the hospital. The docs can't figure out what happened and are treating me with IV antibiotics and Morphine, which is doing a so-so job with the pain. The docs call it life threatening due to some underlying health issues. I think they are just covering their butts. This a car project detour I never expected.
