My first trip to Carlisle turned out to be way more fun than what I had expected because of all the people who chose not to make it this year. Driving across a few states in 50 year old cars is risky but in the end, every minute was worth it.
Wyatt and Scott met up with me at my shop, loaded up some necessities and tools, then hit the road to meet up with Mario before the long haul.
We made a pit stop and checked in at a hotel in Lima OH 1/2 way there. Unbeknownst to us, we were just a few blocks from the "hood". It wasn't until Wyatt and I took the NYer down the street to a drive-thru liquor store when we realized it.
What struck me was as we were in the drive-thru, I noticed at least 50 surveillance photos that were made off a printer that were posted on the walls of this place. When we drove up to the cashier, I asked what they were all about, and with a dead look, she just replied "thems all the thieves that stole from this place". Paid for the beer and headed back to the hotel.
The next morning David met up with us at the hotel, and after gassin up we hit the road again.
We initially planned on taking our time getting there, but then decided to drive the rest of the way to Homewood Suites, and and check in a day early. We got there around 11pm ET.
On Thursday, the crowd was somewhat light but it was a perfect time to walk the isles of the swap meet and score some goodies.
Besides the Hurst wheels, I found another full set of correct center caps, a six pack air cleaner base for the R/T to replace my aftermarket fiberglass POS, a hardware store clock for the shop, and a few other small items.
The swap at Carlisle is 110% better than anything we have around here locally.
Later that night a bunch of us went out for a steak dinner. I personally was glad to see PA does allow dinning inside establishments to remain open for business. However not all places were open for business, like the pizza joint next to the hotel where we were staying.
This trip was a blast, and I am looking forward to going back in 2021.
