Carlisle, Pittsburgh, Orlando... my summer vacation

I've never been to the one you're at. A lot of places along that route. Some are dumps, some arent.
For a dozen years we stayed at the same place Clarion/ Motel Carlisle. Over those years it declined horribly, so much that when they built the Holiday across from Hoss's we jumped on it at reservation time.
The parking lot at the motel Carlisle was huge enough to cruise through and everyone sat outside at night. They sit outside at most places but it's not the same everywhere. I've found the Holiday Inn has a lot of stuffy people staying there and haven't been to friendly.

Go into it knowing you're only sleeping there anything better will be a bonus.
What nights will you been staying in Carlisle?

I am there 4 nights Thursday through Sunday... This is the first time there for me and the first personal vacation in quite a few years. I am going to give myself the least pressure possible.

I too really hope to meet Jer in person... I already see him as a down to earth, larger than life individual. I bet the stories are better told live.

Are you going to try to round up the fella's for dinner some evening?

That's difficult to do with varying agendas. Not everyone likes Hoss's [crazy people] and then there's the guys who are only there Saturday. ....tough for everyone to nail down a time.

Understood, Maybe a Saturday meet up on the field? Something to put a few more faces with avatars... Those paying attention understand Johnny, but he don't look like me. And I don't want to be on the internet... so... just a thought to all going.

Over the last several years my two 10 x 10s have served as the gathering point. Always another members car parked next to mine with others right there also. Meetings happen all weekend long. Again, the agendas and time frames usually vary. I have a hard time sitting still as I am always walking through the swap, scrounging for things that I may have missed the first few times through.

We've tried to have dinner together for several years....like Dave said everyone has a different agenda. I would be up to have dinner at Hoss. Lets just agree on a time Friday or Saturday and whoever shows up...shows up.

We did have some success getting some sort of group picture. Why don't we meet at Dave's car on Saturday for a group picture. Synch watches (or phones) for a group picture at 10 am or whenever.

I'm game for just about anything... I am sure I will want to walk and see everything twice at least and I am sure I will want to relax in the shade some too. I hope to find a few junkyards to troll through along my journey, so as much as I will like the swap, I don't know how much I will be looking for or have budget left for.

I'm looking forward to meeting you as well Jeff. I'm bringing my 78 NYB and a 10x10 snapon pop up to hide from the sun.
When I traveled drilling test boring's, I used to call Hoss's the "House of salmonella". Only in joking of course. They do make a great steak. But no beer!. And nothing goes better than a steak and an ice cold beer!
Looking forward to meeting all you guys!

I've traveled a lot in 25 years in the drilling thru NY, PA and NJ. I've found that best places to go, are the little out the way mom and pop local hang-outs.
You meet the greatest people there. Not to mention great food. Down to earth, locals that have great stories and tales to tell. I kind of miss it in a way.

That's very true.

I've traveled a lot for work in the last 20+ years and I always tried to go off the beaten path for food. I will admit a weakness for breakfast at Cracker Barrel (any time of the day) but other than that, I stay out of the chains.

There's a couple places in Harrisburg that Mrs. Big John really likes. We were going to the Appalachian Brewing company there and now I see they have opened another brewpub in Mechanicsburg where we are staying, so we will be hitting that one for sure.
