The rubber thingy was in as separate packet with no instructions. The first thing I did was try to fit it over the end of the push rod but it was too small. My pushrod fit into the hole perfectly without the rubber thingy and would not have fit even if I was able to stretch the rubber thing over the end of the pushrod. At the time, I figured it was a multi-fit M/C and the rubber thing was to be used if you had a small pushrod.
I didn't use it and my brakes work fine so I don't know....

I believe it has to do with manual M/C. Not positive but inside the master the bore is machined out and the rubber bushing sits in there, then you have to somehow push the pushrod into the rubber bushing. Like I said, Im not positive.

just added this to another post. . and was gonna post pretty much the same info here about the master cylinder I went with: i wanted to jump in on this as im in the same boat - I just went from power drum to disc, not done with the conversion yet. The owner at ECI said I didn't have to change the booster. I asked this very thing - MC only or MC + booster. He said MC only, and it was a NAPA part number what he'd sell me. its supposed to be 4 bolt bolt-on fit. 1 1/32 bore. onto the drum booster. ill be bleeding it out this weekend. we'll see how it goes.
with the ECI kit, its 1980~ Camaro brakes, and the hoses from frame to caliper were too short. I got some 6" brake line extensions out of the back room of autozone, and some couplers...

Well, I'm not taking the damn thing off now so.........
Like the time I did a set of rear brakes on one of those old Mopars with the pressed on drums.
After bolting everything up and dropping the car down, I found a washer.........

well, hell. I changed the MC today, and the booster has to go too. There was/is a little piece in between the booster and MC - its just labeled " filter" in the manual . .. it literally crumbled when we took the MC off... sigh. it was some plastic looking thing. without it there is about 1/4" gap between the MC and booster. And the booster piston arm is all rusty looking. And if you peek inside the booster, there is detritus in there . . .
of course, I didn't buy one. And of course, its special order. Wont be here until tue - wed. I hope it has this 'filter' piece.. otherwise, im not sure what im going to do. Maybe take the MC and booster back and buy a combo unit already stuck together.

well I maybe got all discouraged too soon... it maybe really is just a filter and housing. the other site had a post that said this is a midland ross style, and there is a plastic housing and filter in between the MC and booster..when the booster boosts the air pressue changes from the bellows goes in / out this hole... I figure the filter is long gone and what I have in hand is pieces of the plastic housing. the other post said go get a lawnmower filter, cut to size, and stick that in there. id do that, but I don't even have the housing to hold the filter.... so I may go commando. has anyone been here before and can speak about it ? thanks all -

is this the distribution valve??!? does not compute! there are 2 lines in, both sides of the MC went in here... then 2 lines go front, one line goes to the back, and an electric wire is in the middle. wth is this thing?

What we have here is......
the distribution block.
Front lines split right there and a single line for the rears split at the rear axle. It's also your brake warning light sensor.

thanks. I think I leave it alone then. there is talk about putting an inline manual proportioning valve on the rear line to manually dial in the front / back ratio . . . everything ive read says the OEM one is junk and to put a manual valve in, something like this here: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g3905?seid=srese1&gclid=CJXJkIeDobcCFUxp7Aod4g0AnQ

any idea about the space in between the MC and booster where this filter and housing was?
I figure since mine was non-existent pretty much, im probably OK to just bolt on the new MC . . . but im trying to confirm that with someone who has done this before.
the last car I worked on was 1995~ and I have no one really to ask locally and no other car to compare to either,, im sorta winging it

MC is on the car woohoo. bench bled it in a vise for a while, went to autozone, then got some more bubbles out when I got back . . .take your time bench bleeding so you get all the bubbles out. level the MC in the vise front to back and side to side so its flat.

It may appear as an illusion.... but doesn't it look like the rubber brake hose will or is rubbing in a couple of spots and is the hose going to be too short with the wheel turned all the way to the right?
