I've been busy getting things ready to put back in the Chrysler. The interior needs a little TLC. Part of dealing with a convertible is the interior gets beat up from the sun and weather.
I have a new carpet from Trim Parts to replace the sun bleached one and I decided I have to address the door panels. One of the previous owners figured the plastic sheet wasn't needed and the panel boards have gotten bad.
I started with the rear door that has an interesting repair.
Yes, those are Popsicle sticks.
I stripped the vinyl off the panel.
I traced it on some new panel board.
The top panel wasn't painted on the back, so it was rusty and nasty looking. The paint on the front pulled off with the vinyl.
I blasted and primed/painted with Duplicolor engine enamel.
Cut out and attached to the top panel. I used a hot melt glue gun to attach the panel to the board.
The glue worked OK, but it didn't lay down as flat as I wanted it to, so I clamped it and hit it with my heat gun to remelt the glue.
Glued the vinyl back on.
The vinyl is old and dry and it has pulled off its foam backing in places. The results are OK with a little bit of wrinkling that I can't pull out. They are not as nice as I'd like it, but a lot better than it was.
