Finally my own '70 Sport Fury GT

It sounds like the original owners son is in his upper ages. Did you inquire why or does he know why dad didn't order the V code or did dad consider it? Was there ever any discussion of it?
It would have been great to talk with dad before his passing to ask Mopar questions.
Did he have any answers why dad ordered this car the way he did?
 
After having the radiator recored I was surprised how cool my 1970 Chrysler 300 with 22" radiator stays in summer heat (around 104°F outside), even without a fan shroud.

The 1971 Carter AVS (I think that's what it is) may not be the correct carb, but it might be a better choice than putting a Holley back on the engine.

I would have love to have had the chance to talk to original owner. I do not think the son would know the answer to that question. He loved this car very dearly and used it quite often through the '80s as a backup vehicle but I dont think he was really that into cars like his father was.

If I had to take a gander, I would say the salesman probably steered his father away from checking off the 6bbl option. After all he bought the car to be a sporty family car that they could drive across the country reliably.

The other alternative is just budget constraint & trade in value they gave his Road Runner. He was set on a AM/FM radio, console, and suregrip. Probably didnt leave much for anything else after the GT package, hense the tinted glass but no AC, 2 speed wipers (3 speed required with the 6bbl iirc) & manual drum brakes.

I do find it hard to believe that he did not at least know of the 6bbl option.

On a side note, it kinda sucks that Road Test magazine didn't publish their article till May of 1970. By time anyone who wanted a new Fury had probably already ordered their car unaware that the 6bbl option existed.

Come to think of it, the magazine test car was an early August '69 build car. What was it doing for 8 months before it finally had an article written about it LOL.
 
The 440 is due for a complete tune up. Nothing I hate more than color wires....
FWIW, I spent quite a bit of time pondering about which specific cars to buy for the first tune-up of Medina after I acquired that 1971 T-code Monaco. Here is what @71Polara383 and I converged on. Hope the info in that thread can save you time and/or give you some ideas.

Note that Lectric Limited makes date-coded reproduction cables for your engine. @Big_John recommended them and I’ve been very happy with them. If your dizzy needs freshened up, I highly recommend @halifaxhops

How are your GT’s motor and trans mounts? I have been very happy with Prothane for the trans and Mity Mounts for the engine.

I was fortunate enough to meet the original owners to a car I once owned. It was interesting to hear why they ordered what they did.

I think most of us would love to sit and listen to a original purchaser of a GT . To hear them tell the whats, where's and whys. Especially with a car that could be had with the three twos. This was a road runner owner, he hadda be thinking about it, family or no family.
 
Im honestly glad this car does not have factory AC. Too much clutter under the hood for my taste. I've always been a windows down kind of guy. The car still retains its original 22" non AC radiator and even the hoses. 1st thing is go through the cooling system with new hoses and have the radiator sent out to be checked/cleaned or recored. The son of the original owner told me the only time he can ever recall the car overheating was on that trip up Pikes Peak lol. Ill probably install a OEM fan shroud even if its not original just to be safe.

Somewhere along the line a '71 440/auto carburetor was installed on the car, possible a warranty replacement? Ill run it for now till I can find the proper carb. Then put this on the shelf for my PK41U1 car. The 440 is due for a complete tune up. Nothing I hate more then color wires....

I was lucky enough to talk to original owner of my 70 Road Runner.

We discussed the options, and he told me why he optioned it the way he did, or bought one with the options it had.

Very glad I made the effort. I called the Illinois Secretary of States office and they sent me the forms to request copies of all previous titles. So I called information and got every matching names phone and started calling. That was late 80s. Probably don’t give that info out anymore unfortunately.

I ordered 1st quarter '70 wires based of the cars 2/20 SPD. But the other day I was looking at the block ID pad and found that the engine was assembled 11/24/69. Now I'm uncertain if I should base date codes off the cars SPD or the motor build date thats 3 months earlier..

The only alternative date set is 3rd quarter '69 so I'm pretty confident I got the right ones.

Also have the reproduction radiator hoses & clamps. And I got a '70 BB B-body set of heater hoses. Not sure if they are the same as C-body but its what I could find. I got 2 different radiator caps as I didnt know which would look more correct (and to bump me over the threshold for free shipping hehe)

Need to pull the radiator and send it off but its too cold out to crawl under the car. So that can wait lol.

Maybe if you check date codes on existing installed items, you can get a better sense of what window you should be looking for.

Some items have longer and some shorter time before SPD though, so correct item variation should be reviewed.

You need a parts book. Then you'll know the right numbers.
 
I bought my NYB from the original owner. She ordered the car personally.
She told me that she bout a new Imperial every three years. Her last Imp was a '73. In '76 the best she could was buy the NYB as the Imp was no more.
By the time 79 came around, she hated the downsized Chryslers so she made the decision to keep the NYB as her forever car.

I got a Lectric spark plug wire set dated Q3-1969 (LL P/N 6338-693) for Snow White, my 1970 N-code Polara 'vert, whose SPD was 2-28-1970 (just a week later than your SFGT). My reasoning was that a set produced in Q3-1969 would still have been available by Feb. 1970. If it turns out that I should have bought a Q1-1970 set for Snow instead, then I can do so and take the Q3-1969 set from Snow to install on Regina FQ3, her L-code sister whose SBD is 10-31-1969.

--> I look forward to hearing what others think of the date choice.

PS: I see that the wire set is currently $7.50 cheaper at CarID than at the manufacturer itself (LL) -- go figure.

Thanks for the compliment, but even though I've owned two SFGTs, I'm really much better at figuring out why it doesn't start rather than if the date code is right or not. I never put a lot of study in it, although I can fumble around enough to figure out what's "correct" a lot of the time, I'm not the guy to ask. I'll question, prod and poke to help get the right answer or even play devil's advocate, but never would I even start to claim to know what's correct for one of these cars.

Thanks John. I didn’t know if you did or not, but we all know you’re very knowledgeable, more so than I, as many are, so took a stab lol.

I’m not a date code guy either, but do try to get correct for year/model parts when I can, probably like you there.
