Fun or Cool places you have driven Your Car to

I've traveled the entire length of the Blue Ridge Parkway and High Line drive In North Carolina and Virginia ..... 3 times. 740 miles.
First in a 64 Dodge D200 crew cab, next in my 65 Dodge Coronet 500 convertible and again last July in Jazebelle.
It's a ride I will never get tired of, I think everyone should do that at least once.

If you want to see the feature, go to the "coolRidesColorado.com" website and it's the 2013 January feature. Not sure if it's still up though.
HIGH in the mountains in a LOW car ........ :yourock:

I lived in Colorado back in the mid 70's and attended several concerts at Red Rocks. Beautiful place.

Blue Ridge highway definitely on my list. My wife and I like to stay at a B & B in the Smokey's, either start or end of the Blue Ridge drive.

I've done the Blue ridge a few times on my bike and at the moment dream about driving in the convertible. :)

The south end starts at Cherokee NC in Smoke Mountain national park. You should plan 2 to 2 1/2 days to drive the entire route including the 110 mile stretch of the ski line drive in Virginia. Almost all of the state & county roads that intersect the parkway will offer quant places to stay overnight, just off the parkway.
If your in a hurry ..... pick another route. Speeds range from 15 to a top speed of 45 MPH.

Not far north of the Virginia state line you'll find Mabry Mill. A great local history spot and a good place for a picnic, or eat at the little resturant there. There are long stretchs of no service areas so plan your gas stops. (I ran out of gas in my Crew cab but was able to coast down a long hill, off an exit, run the stop sign ... hard left and into a gas station. The wife was not impressed).

The Sky Line drive ends in Front Royal Va. An area steeped in Civil war history.

Enjoy your trip.

That is why I want to drive it in Goldie, top down cruising around 15-45 mph, what's not to like. I have driven various portions of it from around Ashville and Cherokee. Thanks for all the tips. I will drive it some time soon.

I know you have a passion for Rockford but how would you know that?

I don't know how he knows, but it's just one of those things you learn when you live in Southern California. Like the trailer Mel Gibson's character lived in in the Lethal Weapon series was in Palos Verdes. Both PV and Point Dume (the community north of Malibu where Paradise Cove is) are really expensive. On film it may look okay that these guys are down and out, but they're in neighborhoods of multi-million dollar homes. Even in those days.

I've surfed out in front of where Rockford's trailer was. There's a surf spot called Little Dume that works in the summer time. It's a very exclusive gated community, and the locals don't like people coming in from outside. A friend from college grew up there, and I went to visit her. Of course, I brought surf boards with me, because.... well, why wouldn't you? Anyway, when my brother and I started off to walk down the trail to get in the water, she said, "wait, take my dog, Wizard, with you." We didn't understand why, until people started hassling us, thinking we had snuck in. Then they saw the dog, and said, "oh, Wizard. You're friends of Lee?" And it was cool.

Sorry, no C-Body, though.

My favorite trip was to chicago in 2010 for the 30th anniversary of The Bluesbrother. Took the car to a ton of filming locations, as well as a few car shows. The whole trip was a blast! Did it again in 2011, but not as much fun.. I get a kick out of saying, I have the last bluesmobile to ever be in the mall they drove through, before it got torn down last year.
