Guilty Pleasures

I tend to agree, however, somebody wants to spend several billion Euros with your company, one might try to figure out how to scarf down some fish bait. Turns out I liked this bait.

This "fish bait" too ... from Olive Garden, but these aint onion rings.

Now I gotta tell the Calamari story...

When we first got married, my new step son was really fussy when it came to food. Something like this would never be considered, let along tried.

We went to a nice restaurant one night and I bought home some left overs, including a Calamari dish with pasta and sauce. It was really good, but I couldn't eat it all, so it came home.

Next day, I'm looking to heat it up for lunch... and it's gone. My step son (15 at the time) had spied it and figuring it was just pasta and sauce, gobbled it up. Annoyed me a little... Whatever.. I asked him if he liked it and of course, gave him some crap about eating my leftovers. He said he really liked it and I asked if he knew what it was... Of course he didn't... I said "it was Calamari" and I got a blank stare.. "You know.. Squid." I got another stare and he looked to his Mom and she agreed. He then surprised me and said again how much he liked it..

The long term effect was he started trying different things... and liking them. At 35 years old, he's now up for almost anything. That day was a turning point.

Speaking of deep fried buttholes...don't knock it 'til you try it. Tacos de tripas are awesome!

Had to look 'em up. I see the "resemblance" now.. Does the frying kill the smell? :poke:

Not a fan myself (those and "mountain oysters" are not on my tablecloth's playlist), but the "oldtimers" in the family with Southern US roots love 'em. Boiled or whatever they do, with some Franks Red Hot Sauce", garlic, salt, and a Coke

"Chitlins"! I don't think anyone has claimed this dish as a guilty pleasure or otherwise before now.

They're usually washed REALLY well before frying. No smell. They have a texture similar to calamari though.

Maybe not so much a guilty pleasure because I make no bones about this being one of my favorite Mexican treats. Capechana especial. Shrimp, crab, octopus, oyster, and sea snails. Mised in with some clamato, onions, and cucumber. So friggin good!

At least, individually, chili and spaghetti are food. Together they are awesome. View attachment 599379
I've got to agree with that. Nobody around here serves it though.

The Syracuse area does have its own foods though. Just the other day I got a fretta from one of the local places. A freta is basically scrambled eggs mixed with home fries, broccoli, peperoni, sausage, cheese, peppers and onions. Usually some toasted Italian bread goes with it.

The great thing about this is the leftovers reheats nicely and tastes just as good.

That sounds pretty good!

What's really funny is you guys call them "Coneys". I believe those are 5 Way..

We also have "Coneys" but they are pronounced "Ku-nees". Basically a spicy white hot dog, made with pork and veal. Sometimes called "Snappys".

The proper way to eat them is with a bit of good mustard on a New England style bun.

I knew a guy that used to do some work for Chrysler's racing engine program. When the guys from Chrysler were in town, they always wanted to go to Heids for a few of these.

Number 1 "Hotdog" place in the world (careful if curious, clickbait-foddder), out of 40 "rated" eateries. I'll save you the "doggie drama" :)

Never been to the NY joint, no "dog" in the fight so to speak, when in Michigan I go to one place, for past 50 years.

National Coney Island
. Good, cheap, tasty .. Coney Combo, chili/onions/mustard on the dog, fries (sometime a salad nowadays), and a Diet Coke.
