How will it hurt the rubber in the balancer?
IFF one has good control over the breaker bar and cheater pipe, the balancer shouldn't be touched. All the same, since folks don't always apply big muscled torque in the optimal plane of motion, one might lean into something, striking the outer edge of the damper. Funny stuff like this can happen. I lost a damper shortly after installing my current 383 in Gertrude. I can recall a few instances which might have damaged that damn damper. Not a BIG matter, having a few here now, so I replaced it, but, you dig what I'm saying now? Better to just remove it when applying muscle to stuff involving it. It took about a week before my old damper started to wobble, but it did.
