How much bar is too much bar

How will it hurt the rubber in the balancer?

IFF one has good control over the breaker bar and cheater pipe, the balancer shouldn't be touched. All the same, since folks don't always apply big muscled torque in the optimal plane of motion, one might lean into something, striking the outer edge of the damper. Funny stuff like this can happen. I lost a damper shortly after installing my current 383 in Gertrude. I can recall a few instances which might have damaged that damn damper. Not a BIG matter, having a few here now, so I replaced it, but, you dig what I'm saying now? Better to just remove it when applying muscle to stuff involving it. It took about a week before my old damper started to wobble, but it did.

To add, would y’all still recommend trying to get it to turn over after the heads are pulled?

Hell YEAH! That way, you can SEE what's happening in the bores. Be generous with oil.

Have the heads done over?

Have 'em looked over and cleaned up anyway.

Where would y’all go from here?

I'd clean everything up I could, then see about installing those heads when I got 'em back. Get some good gaskets.

This is my first go of a revival so this is all new to me!

Document your work well.

Agree, if some valves are stuck open, pull the heads to get a better idea of how much rust you're working with. If the valves hadn't been stuck, and it was just some stuck rings, I had better luck popping things loose by using a pry bar in the starter hole to lever on the ring gear back and forth. Another good soaking agent in the cylinders is Evaporust. Chances are, you're going to need to pull the engine apart anyway to freshen it up, so, I suppose trying to get it unstuck will just help you unbolt the flex plate and pull the engine?
I'm not sure how effective the Evap-o-rust will be with lubricatians in the boys already. I believe that it says to decrease items to be soaked.

Been shopping around for quotes on a valve job, well known local shop quoted me $750 to get the heads surfaced, pressure tested and a valve job. Likely gonna pull the trigger on that shop, sound reasonable to the more experienced?

Speak with them about what guides they recommend as well as installing hardened exhaust valve seats. I don’t know if bronze valve guides are recommended for this engine, but others would have a good recommendation.

Couple photos from the big move today, the work starts tomorrow. Got the original keys with the original dealer tag from the previous owner too, thought that was pretty cool! Ignore the ugly peeling vinyl roof LOL

Here’s a potentially silly question. Will I have any issues priming the oil pump without the heads on the engine? I want to flow some oil to help things move, but I don’t know what the hell I’m doing I figure I’ll just get some oil loss from the top of the block?

The oil will squirt out of the oil passage on each side. I don't know how much, but I would expect a fairly heavy stream. It'll just make a mess.

Do you have the heads off?

Yeah that’s what I assumed. Heads are still on, haven’t had a chance to get to work in a couple days. Rear drivers side drum is locked up so it’s currently sitting outside my garage, go figure!

Got an update for everyone. I sourced a nice semi local (3 hours away) 440 for a good price, running when pulled. My plan is to pull the original engine and rebuild it but slap the new engine in in the meantime so I can get to driving this thing. My question is, what would y’all recommend I address on the new engine before I drop it in the Fury?

Timing chain is a safe bet.
