Agreed - for musclecars the NOM factor isn't the big deal that is used to be, and how well the car is preserved/restored, or special options, is a bigger factor, a NOM car that needs nothgin will sell for more than a #s-match that needs some restoration work re-done.

With that said, NOM + rusty sheetmetal is the kiss of death for a 'special' C-body, but not for a musclecar. Even rusty roller base-model A-B-E models sell for more than some of our cars.

In the past I've seen Dan give lots of insulting lowball WIW estimates on Moparts on other people's cars - but then holds his stuff as golden. Some of the grief he gets is over the condition of his cars vs price, but some of it is surely due to the stones he's thrown at other people's houses.

At some point these V-code project cars must transition from 'waiting for the right person' to accepting that the right person doesn't exist yet (and maybe never will). A lot more C-bodies need to evaporate before these cars become viable prospects, and that may never happen as the pool of interested people continues to get older.

LOL..when people ask for a WIW they want smoke blown up their asses and high $$$ "GUESSES" to make them feel good.. every car except ONE!.. i gave a price on SOLD for almost exactly what i said or MUCH MUCH LESS EVEN..... remember I LIST MY "GUESSES" AS ACTUAL SALE PRICE not "ASKING PRICE"..big big difference..

This car is the most dead horse ever beaten up on. I have been very undecided about it all the time, definitely of no interest at all to my own Standards concerning classic cars, that's why I never got over the stage of an observer.
What I notice is there has been a considerable shift in the Evaluation of the remains of this car. In the past there was practically the unanimous opinion this was an overpriced POS, while now with some more serious restorers of some interesting cars that were considered basket cases in the past the rate of approval has gone up steadily.

all that really matters is the car SURVIVES.. and is RESTORABLE.. if there was a GLUT of these V code C bodies like B/E bodies it would not be nearly as special but since you SIMPLY cannot go out and BUY a V code C body anywhere on the planet [except mine]..you either accept it for what it is [a huge project] or simply go without.. and yes i get the fact you can buy any 70 fury and put a 440-6 engine in it and have something similar for 20-25K investment... while this car will be 50K + to restore easy.. however when you try and SELL the built up car with non numbers.. you will see why a REAL ONE is a much better way to go for a future return on your money... if that's what you are in the hobby for .. everyone is always saying .." its gonna cost more than its worth to restore." .. 95% of restored cars have more in them that they are worth..

Hmmm, are you considering my car as *the one!* that sold above your 'accurate' price? I doubt it, I doubt you kept it on your radar, and I'm skeptical that you're closing the loop on all those cars to make such a statement of how accurate your assessments are. All except one? That dog don't hunt.

You said $2500 on my car, and my car sold for $6500 (pretty close to my asking price), so you weren't even in the ballpark. I wasn't insulted, as I anticipated it from you.

And yes, we all understand the difference between asking prices and sale prices, these V-codes are prime examples. How can you be so skilled at other people's stuff, but to use your parlance, blowing smoke up your own???

I always thought this one was more promising than the black car you had for sale, and now that one is being restored. Only thing really missing that might matter is the original block. Steal one out of a cloned E-body, nobody will miss it. Re-create the fender tag with the build sheet, and be done with it. There is so much history with this one, especially that road test article, it has to be saved.

you simply found a buyer who wanted your car so bad the price did not matter to him.. lots of anomaly prices for cars out there.. you got lucky and made a profit...most don't..

It sure sets a precedence.

Let me put it out there Dan, wasn't your original asking price for the black car around sixty grand? What was your rational for pricing then?

well of course everyone hopes for a guy like that to come along!..but a one car anomaly selling for a MUCH HIGHER price than comparable cars does not a MARKET MAKE..

40+ year old unrestored same make model cars are rarely much alike all things considered. They can fluctuate pretty wildly

I see some folks are picking up on what I'm saying.

You said you were low on only 1 car, essentially saying you are all-knowing, and my car (#2 incorrect call) is now an anomaly An anomaly bought by a fool that didn't know market price, because you surely can't be wrong. From my ignorance, which came from 20+ years of nothing but C-bodies, knew without a doubt I could sell it for more than you said it was worth (I could've sold it at a garage sale for what you said it was worth!). I made some WIW inquiries so that I didn't price it too low, and based on my seller I was right in the ballpark of normal negotiation (had I tried ebay and spent more time I surely could've gotten more).

And I'm confident there are lots of other cars that have sold for more than you predicted - because at what you say things are worth, there would be no transactions because there would be no sellers. How many of your cars have sold remotely close to your asking price???

EXACTLY my point.. i would have paid 2500.00 for your car... ACTUAL SALE..but find the right guy and he will pay your price while no one else would.. like i said one car doesn't a market make..
