Meet Maggie May!

I went ahead and replaced the alternator yesterday.
A DNS reman. squareback.
It was a dud! Not charging!
So the old one went back just for overnight till another came on.
On the way to work this morning the old alternator finally took a dump.
Talk about timing!
At idle not charging..At 2000 RPM with a load on it from the AVR machine only putting out 4 amps at 12.5 volts..

I was very happy today when I oend the Wilson box to find a 34 amp Roundback single field alternator!
Old alternator was a squareback parts jobber..

Finally gave Frankie a cleaning, quick detail and washed the whitewalls..
Now I trust the car to go anywhere.
Maggie will be driving the car for the weekend.

Comparing the GPS to the speedometer and the car's 65 MPH on the freeway is 110 KPH on the GPS.
So the speedo is off by 3 MPH slower than the actual speed. (Should be 68 MPH)
Not too shabby and not warrants swapping out the speedo pinon gear.

Next on the to do list is replace the fuel pump.
It started leaking through the peep hole this morning.
At home,I was checking the engine temp with my laser gun and smelled and then saw gas.
Frankie came with a new fuel pump when we got him..Luckily I kept it. The existing pump was fine until now,LOL!
As for the engine temps, the gauge reads higher than actual temperature.
After 10 minutes or so running, the gas gauge increases by 1/8 a tank too.
I do have an electronic volt limiter I bought from a member here...but stuck on the US side of the border since March.

At least the fuel pump had not failed altogether when Maggie was driving.
Getting the bugs out which is part of driving an old car that sat for a very long time..

Mine did The same thing last week, and it’s less than six months old.

For the newbies...
How to change a fuel pump under 30 minutes on a small block equipped C...
You lift and swing up the alternator .. Lol!

Well the parts that were at the border are on their way.
3 parcels and 102 bux US to bail them out.
Still better than self quarantine on each side ....lol
So next plan is open the dash get the electronic limiter and newly converted clock installed and do all the lights in LED.
Stay tuned!!

Speaking of tuning Maggie had been driving the car the past two weeks and added another 300 ish miles on the clock!!
Great highway cruiser and decent gas milage!
Thats after marking the balancer finding true TDC.
Last week with the help of James qe removed all the plugs and in #1 hole put in a piston stop.
Once we marked the balancer the timing waa set to 10 degrees. By vacuum and guessing It was running at 22 degrees!$ Yeah ping city!!
At least now the 318 will chug along the freeway at 65 70 all day without melting itself down.

While she was cleaning, I installed the new headlamps.
Hella housings with upgraded Piaa bulbs. Both H4 low and H1 high beams.

Hello, also looking to upgrade my lighting... can only seem to find Hella sealed beams. Can you let me know what part numbers you went with for both the housings and the bulbs if you still have them? TY in advance!

The low beams H4 bulbs and housings:
5-3/4" Round Conversion Headlamp Kit, High/Low Beam (ECE) 002850811
The H1 high beams I had to get as singles since the "kit" was on backorder.
5-3/4" Round Conversion Headlamp, High Beam (ECE) H11425011
You can order direct from Hella or Summit Racing.
Also try the numbers at a local parts jobber.
Hope this helps.

Yesterday Maggie and I put Frankie away for the winter.
Maggie put 700 miles on the Fury in a short period of time!!
The mornings and evenings are almost at freezing point and Maggie does not like waiting for long engine warm up times lol.
Maggie took these shots while I did the last drive for this season
