Mice and wiring

Youtube the operation of that device. Quite amazing.

I have used them and killed hundreds at a farm property I have.

I built the beer can design, with water, and did not catch any.....but that is the black cloud in action. Might try this one outside. I did buy the medium priced crimper with replaceable jaws, very nice. I think my question here relates to the smaller barrel design connector that has to be crushed, with some design tool. For the medium and larger wires, including up to 4-0 battery cable, I have used the tried and true type of crush with a dimple in the middle. But for the small auto wire, the connectors are not behaving....put one end of the finished wire in a vice, and pull on the other as a test. So what design jaw would you use on the small wire connector. As I mentioned above, for some ends, I use and have the double crimp type, one wire, one coat, and crimp in the jaw designed for two. But, this does not work on all cases, as in my mouse damage where I had to cut and splice and used the simple barrel connector, that gave me this problem....yet again.

More work on small wires. I have found that the oval crimp tool....just an oval opening, seems to work pretty well on the small connectors and wires. No indent as I thought was needed, just an oval opening. And, even in the vice, it holds tight on the small connector and wire, the 22-18. So, am good for now, will write this down to try to remember next time.....aaaargh.

Toss in and lock up one of these things in your garage that's hungry and really pissed off ...end of mouse, spider, bird, roach and pretty much anything that moves... Maybe even you when you finally have to get it out. Lol.

I installed a new wiring harness, first thing in the beastie. I tried to cover a bunch of it with loom, but not all. I have an electronic mouse inhibitor and several traps under the hood, and also vamoose with traps inside the car. So, the other day, I am checking, and find several of my new wires eaten thru with copper pulled out, near the firewall. I cant help but wonder if our chinese friends purposely construct the wire coat with either peanut butter or cheese in the mix. I am going to add cloth tape to try to cover more. Wondering if anyone has other thoughts on the critters. I did have a spray.....and may try another on the general area of major wiring at the firewall, inside and out. thanks for suggestions.
Nice are a problem. I live in the country mice are here. I use traps I use dryer sheets I’ve tried everything

They get into the car do whatever on the carpet and the car carries the smell when out for a ride

Started the car this past winter and a mouse was outside the windshield complaining that I woke it up

We’re paying for a service. Nice, voles more so and sometimes a shrew.
tin cats (metal bait traps), sticky traps and spray (for bug reduction) are checked, reset and applied monthly, inside and out. A few still get inside the basement.
I’d like to hear more about the Mrs Big John mixture. I could use something like that to keep the mice out of the car and have it smell a bit better.

Thanks

So at this point, I am still repairing, and got the metal wire loom material that looks real nice, from you know where. So, will cover what I can with that. Also got some more mint spray. Also have vamoose bags of fragrant materials that seem to help a bit. So now, my car has about four traps, two bags, the spray, and one of those boxes of bait they have to enter to eat. I am still getting a few shells in the carpet. I am also thinking to use some very light fence wire, chicken wire, to ball up and put into the spaces over the right inner fender and the air inlet area for the heater near the firewall, in attempt to slow entry. Might also help keep the leaves out. When I pulled the two vents at the kick plates, I got out a bucket of leaves, then cleaned and painted. I suspect this is the main entry point for the critters, although I now have the heater buttoned up, so how the heck they find a hole is not clear.....more scotch.

She told me this is the recipe. Here's How To Make All-Natural Sachets To Keep The Mice Away

I can't tell you if it works 100% or not, but the car smells really good in the spring. I did 6 "sachets" for each car. You are supposed to "refresh" the contents once in a while, but I just do new ones each winter. The scent gets weaker in a few months, so I just toss them under the seats come spring.

I was having problems with mice getting under the hood of my truck and chewing up the hood insulation. I put a couple under the hood, and it hasn't happened again. While I can't say that's proof it works, it didn't hurt either.

I’m going to try this. I have noticed insulation chewing remnants in the ‘66 Corvair convertible and don’t need the nuisance. I plan on getting it in the shop, especially now that the rear plastic window has a couple of holes in it from a recent hail storm.
Thanks for the recommendation!

Thank you will definitely give this a try. If it rids the car of the mouse smell that would be awesome.

To get rid of the smell, you need to clean everything.

I bought a car a while ago that mice had their way with. The headliner was stained and that had to go and the carpet was badly worn, so that was replaced. I then cleaned everything as much as possible.

I found this stuff and sprayed the undersides of the seats. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005ITWODY?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1 This stuff is pretty good, Mrs. Big John started using it for a few things (dog related LOL) and didn't give it back. I suggested this to a friend, and he said it worked great to get the smell out of his car.

Im a firm believer in Tomcat glue traps, around our garages in texas catches mice, scorpions, big water bugs BIG spiders and an occasional small copper head! Those work great here!!

I have three cats in my barn were my tools and two Mopars are. Besides the three of them, the only living thing I have found in the barn are a couple of spiders that are in places the cats can't get. No rats, mice, flies, moths, etc. My 64 Imperial has no rodent damage even though it set outside for twelve plus years before I got it. I'd love to meet the a$$holes who invented soy based wire insulation in a dark desert wash!

How about the peppermint oil on the cotton balls scattered around? I have used it but the peppermint is kinda spendy so i probably didn't do it as often as I should, so not sure it works

This thread has jinxed me... Or maybe the mice in my garage are actually jinxed because they are the ones getting caught.

I've trapped 3 this week.
