mini starter fit issue

The battery cable insulator hits the 440 engine block and prevents the mini starter from being installed correctly. See pics. the starter is crooked. Anyone have this issue before. My solution is to rebuild the starter I removed unless someone has a better idea.

If I recall right, that insulator thingie was basically used to relocate and reposition the connection posts and can be removed altogether. Or thats how I remember my starter had (5.9 magnum starter for a dodge truck). After removal, you can connect starter cables to the posts closer to starter motor. It's still slightly tight fit but not a problem.

Seems like there are a few threads in here on that issue? What application of later model vehicle does your mini-starter fit? THAT in itself might be the issue.

Take the black plastic piece off, it's meant for a small block. If it still hits after that's removed, there's an adapter that's on eBay for like $16.00.

Take the adapter off and put battery cables right on the posts, if it hits grab the relocation kit.

Mini Starter is a far superior unit than the turd you took off.

It was a big heavy turd, but it did fit. I'll give the adaptor a go.

What's the advantage of the mini-starter VS. the original starter.
I've never used anything other than the original.
Never had one fail that wasn't to my knowledge rebuilt.
Never had one fail that I had rebuilt just because it was off the vehicle and thought why not.

Never had one not perform the way the factory intended.
