MrMopar's 1969 California Highway Patrol restoration

It is an effort but the transmission cooler lines can be installed after the engine is in, initially I had them on but my friend felt they were in the way.

When the time comes, I'm going to attempt installing mine onto the stub frame first, and then attach the stub to the body.
 
Did you find anything special on the torque convertor? A higher stall?

There were no identifying marks that could be deciphered. This is only the second time I had a converter out of a transmission, the last time was on a 318 over 30 years ago, normally when I pull an engine I leave the transmission with the converter in the car.

It was big and orange, about all I can say. People say it is different but nothing in the original spec sheet mentions the converter.

I wasn't happy with the fit of one of the cooler lines so over the weekend I pulled it out to make the adjustments.
This time I had the core support in but no radiator so it came right out. Made the adjustments and in it went, it does go through a 2" square opening under the engine mount but no real effort.

The original Leece Neville alternator was sent out for rebuild and came back looking almost like new. With the engine in the car some of the engine related parts could go on, the front pulleys and alternator were all I was able to do.

To Stan: Yes that is the Factory Correct lower radiator hose.

Now that the engine and transmission were in the car I could put the core support back on, the fenders are still loose but at least they are supported. Once the hood goes back on we’ll lock the fenders in place with the adjustments.

I want proof that it came out of the factory and went into service that way :D

The lower radiator hose is a MOPAR part and was installed by the factory on the CHP cars. The hose and rear shocks were two parts that were specified in the Dodge pamphlet outlining the differences in the CHP build.

Not seen in that picture are the screw down hose clamps as specified.

OK, maybe I'm dumb. Why did this car seem to run off of an external gas can, just like mine when I got it?
 
When I bought my H-D cop bike at a Boston PD auction held indoors, the FD required all the bikes be drained, cap off, and hoses removed.

Not sure what you see, the old coolant bottle was a makeshift overflow bottle to replace the Cadillac one that the CHP had put on.

The fuel filter on the car was missing and the hard line mechanically pinched.

Other than dirt and weeds there was nothing else not factory under the hood of this car.

My mistake. I thought the overflow bottle was filled with fuel. See, mine had a makeshift bottle stuffed in the same area and filled with fuel. It's connected to the carb. I've never heard of such a strange thing. I wondered if it was a Polara thing.
 
How about I make you feel better? My Imperial hasn't been starting because it seems to have some intermittent electrical gremlin.

I was jump-starting it, and saw the ammeter running a charge while my truck was running. Then I tried to start it, and it wouldn't quite turn over. So I kept the truck running. A while later, I noticed the ammeter swing over to discharge. I said to myself, "hmm. There's the intermittent short." And cranked the car over, drove it a while and parked it again without investigating.
