My neighbor ruined my plans

The car is now being worked on. My body guy could not get it done before Carlisle so I had no choice but to go to another shop. They will be able to get the car done for Carlisle.
Sorry to see the car damaged, if he was in NY he would have been arrested and taken away. Drving without insurance is a felony and they take it real seriorusly in NY. My friend was taking his Buick GN from a storage building on a farm (we can have winters and road salt here) down the road a mile to his house. A trooper just happened to be coming in the other direction and saw him with no front plate, that started the stop. He was charged with driving an unregistered, uninsured, uninspected motor vehicle. They towed his car to an impound lot and took him to the station where he was booked.

Yep!

New York State has it's own penalties that they impose automatically too. The DMV suspends your drivers license and the registration on your car based on how long you were driving without insurance. You have to pay a $50 fee to get your license back. If you are in an accident with no car insurance, your drivers license is revoked for a year with a $750 reinstatement fee. You also have to pay a daily rate for insurance through the DMV for the days that the car was driven without insurance.

These are automatic, non-negotiable penalties and noting to do with whatever traffic court chooses to fine you.

That is harsh, but should teach people a quick lesson.

That is a real scumbag
No ins no registration
I hope you called the cops
So that moron cans drive
With out insurance
He was going too fast backing up.

I live in New York and the penalties may seem harsh until you are hit by one of these morons driving without insurance. I hope he is going to pay to have your car fixed.

The car is well on its way to being fixed,
the jammed door was removed and disassembly has started.

There is another member of this site that I know well and he lives in Long Beach, Ca and due to limited land space near beaches, he has to park some of his vintage cars on the street. He has had a few hit and runs and Hagerty treated him amazingly well and took care of things promptly, and he still gets his insurance at good rates. So I estimate Hagerty will be a big help in this case and I am also confident that TCP global will get you paint that will match better than anyone else that I know of. Hagerty covers all my cars and know well how to grow their business through treating their customers right.

Stuff like this really hurts so I fully understand your angst, but try to take the long view in this case as much as you can and I believe things will work out well because you are in good hands with Hagerty (they are very good in terms of getting and willing to pay for good repair shops that can do the job very well) and are not at all like the typical homeowner insurance companies that Tim @sixpkrt has to deal with (as the old saying is that they would rather "peel your eyes out and eat them for grapes" before they will do anything for you), fortunately, that will evade any help in getting a repair done and there is a very good paint supplier that also can help a great deal. As @73Coupe said above he has very good results from TCP Global and his newest vehicle is EA4 and that just has to be one of the most difficult colors to match and as he said the match was done well - it has a tendency to look gray under some light and blue in different settings, but from the photos he showed me, I never thought anyone could match that color so well.
I wouldn’t think Hagerty would agree to insure a vehicle that didn’t have inside storage. Iirc I had to provide a picture of my storage situation.

I seem to remember that being a requirement for my policy too, although I never had to show a picture where it was stored.

I know that in different states, there are policies written to fit state laws and regulations. They may not be able to deny coverage for guys that have to park on the streets in some states, but that's just speculation on my part.

I have many guys tell me that they found an empty garage to take that pic.
Hagerty isn't stupid but I can't understand that useless requirement.

All they need is a couple minutes on the intrawebs and google to figure out if you have a garage.

I had a new roof a couple years ago... They never came out to do an estimate. Just looked at it from the overhead and street views. My oldest son has started selling roofing and siding along with windows. He says there is software that just looks at the overhead shot and whatever else is out there and kicks out an accurate estimate.

They ask about your storage situation for sure. But my car got hit outside the house overnight and they covered it without question.

Things happen.

I had to send Hagerty photos of my cars in the garage, too. They wouldn't accept the vehicle w/o "proof"...

Indeed:icon_fU::poke::icon_fU::lol:

So the owner of the shop has a thing for Imperials and just decided to repaint the whole side. I’m thinking of paying out of pocket to do the other side as well at this point.

Insurance lobby owns your state too, huh?
