Alright, looks like the culprit is the wheel cylinders. Emptied the rear drum tank no problem, front one drained a bit but even with the bleeder fully off, nothing ever came out.

I still have some new ones from 2020's adventures, but how these spontaniously failed from sitting in the space of a week i have no idea. I still gotta do the parking brake cables so i guess i'm going to the 4 wheel drum brake jamboree tomorrow.

While digging for them I found a NOS clock in the pile. I'm sure it probably works maybe.

There are quartz conversion kits for the clocks. I have converted 3 clocks of this period. Let me know if you need the source and I’ll dig it up.

quite the opposite, nothing in, nothing out. Seized totally.

Got the spindle rebuilt but the new bleeder is too long and hits the hub, not sure how to bleed it presently. It is of course smaller in diameter (!?) and does not interchange with the originals.

Cool.


I just hope the opposite side is ok, i'm not sure i have the space to disassemble the hub in that corner.

Got the right side good, doing the same dance on the left now, it was plugged up solid too. How both cooked at the same time i have no idea. Maybe grandpa had DOT5 in there and i topped it up with Dot3? Who knows.

Weirdly the rear drum tank in the master was dry when i opened the top today. No leaks that I can find. Where did that go?

Found out where all the rear stop goo went. My brand new in 2020 wheel cylinders with maybe 8 hours of use exploded from doing nothing too hard.

Were you not planning on replacing any bushings?

Which side of the MBC was dry? Front or back? Front is for rear brakes.

Got some aligning to do but it's back on and out of the weather.

I'm sure it'll upset some people but I'm leaving the wheel well stampings off. To save the weight, get the header heat out of the bay better and just to make it easier to work on. Still got em, they'll just be sitting in the basement until i decide i want them back on again.

She'll never see the wet again so I think it's worth it.

I recommend putting them back in. Your engine bay will get filthy in short order.
 
From a dyno testing video I've seen (on mopar big block) headers don't give you much extra hp.

And I would have installed the engine first before putting the front clip on.

On a stock motor, where the limit on flow is the cam, sure. On a built motor, you cannot do without. Headers are a force multiplier, the power they make is a function of the rest of the motor. They're also really good for milage as the scavanging improves combustion efficiency dramatically.

And yes i would've loved to put the motor in but it's currently a stripped block waiting for machine shop schedules to open up.
