New to me 78 NYB on its way but please Don't tell my wife

i also fixed the washer pump lines to the wipers today......went to test them and the wipers gave up the ghost. I’m actually sort of glad... at least I won’t have to worry anymore about when they would go.

Well... they went. One more thing for the list. The more I knock down the more it grows. I’ll get ahead soon.

The key to success is persistence.

Start with telling her about the wiper problem and then ease in to BTW.....we own this car......

:):)

today I’m going to just puzzle work on the ATC a bit.

Here’s what is happening:

I push off and blower goes off. I don’t hear any of the vacuum motors reset.

I push in vent and I get air out of the heating vents on the floor.

I push low or high auto heat and the fan does change speeds.

Same with low or high auto cool.

I push Defrost and the damper works and I get defrost.

What works and first checks:

As the car warms up the air gets warmer. There is no vacuum to water valve. Need to put it on heat to see if vacuum reaches the valve.

Vacuum seems to be getting to the dash switch.

Vacuum may not be getting to the servo.

Also need to check that main power to the servo and amplifier are present.
Power is reaching the blower
Power is getting to the compressor.

The only white line is coming off the servo to the transfer switch. Nowhere near where I found the line by the accelerator pedal.

So the burning question is, did you tell management bout the NYB yet??

It’s all about the set up. I’ve got a car that has a problem I need to take to the shop first. That will open up the driveway and her mind to the possibility easier.

30 years of bliss is on the line here and I know how to work that particular problem. I’ve bought and sold over thirty cars in that time and it’s all about the PRESENTATION!!!

My goal is a simple “oh...ok” without the rant.

Trying to avoid something like ...“OMG... are you crazy? We’ve got a girl in college and another one on the way. We can’t be spending money on your stupid hobbies...What are you thinking????. get rid of it!”

To which I would say... “But Darling.....honey... it keeps me happy and sane. It’s my only real vice and we get a little cash that I share every now and then.”

That's way better than what I got... "If you take my parking space in the driveway, I'm leaving"...

I didn't have the sack to tell her it's a nice cul de sac and the street is usually clear. I wanted to, but I just couldn't...

Got the headlights switch today and see that the dimmer portion design is now electronic rather than the more familiar wound resister wire coil.

Removed all the foam backing left from the removed rub strip on the passenger side.

Also made some progress on the driver’s side as I wait for the A/C parts I’ve ordered.

A few interesting observations:

Previous owner extended the drivers side front seatbelt upper strap.

Interior leather is very dirty but otherwise pristine and still very supple throughout

Old tires are 225. Thought she looked a little low in the saddle. New ones will be 235’s.

If you require more information on the ATC, my '73 is being attended to by experienced guys at Randalls Auto Haus in Menasha WI (920) 727-1826 or (920) 725-8575. Perhaps a call will assist you with repairs to yours.

In any event, you have a beautiful car which I hope gives you much pleasure once sorted.

It’s fairly good but far from perfect.

Well.....be extra careful with the roof rail seals because there isn't another set (except the set a certain someone on FCBO has) on the planet. No one repops them either.

Unless I missed it somewhere else in the thread, have you told the wife yet? If the pictures I see are of your shop, then the car might be easily hidden from her view. But inquiring minds wanna know......

Does this shop seem like they know how to diagnose and repair ATC II problems? Have they done this before? I live in dread of mine breaking. Thank for letting me know.
