This came up while searching for another place. Love the sign.

Good holiday weekend folks .. my "labors" are ending here Till tuesday next week :)

One more ... on a hunch from my college days.

There used to be a Standard Oil gas station at the intersection of Washtenaw Ave at Stadium Blvd in Ann Arbor Mi.

Going west on Washtenaw, you veer left and keep straight on Stadium a couple miles and you get to the "Big House" (Michigan football stadium). Veer right, you stay on Washtenaw and you get to Michigan's central campus.

The address is 2460 Washtenaw.

Going home to Detroit and needing to gas up (with my last five bucks for seven gallons, enough for there back), or getting back to town on fumes, I used this station many times 40+ years ago.

Here's what it looked like back in my time.

Today its still there. Its a Bearclaw Coffee store since 2005. They demolished the 3-stall garage section from its service station days tho.

What I didn't know all these years was this was a "famous" structure. It was called the Tuomy Hills Service station, built in 1928 by the Tuomy Family (big name in Ann Arbor apparently).

The Standard Oil Company was so impressed with the design of this station , they leased it and exhibited a replica of it at the 1933 World's Fair in Chicago. Couldn't find any pictures of it there.

Former Rotary station. Now a Mexican restaurant. I knew the owner of the Rotary station... When they pulled out of the area, he moved across the street and opened a repair shop.

Where is this one? I worked at Rotory's summer after HS. Liverpool, Cicero, North Syracuse. Must have been shortly after the people didn't live there, the house was still there but not used, just sold gas.

There are about 20.000 NEW car dealers today, and maybe twice that many years ago. Many of these folks are new to the business, but many more used to be in one/more OTHER buildings in their history.

Good guess! In 1941 there were 45,299 dealerships in business, and in 1956 41,167.

I'd seen the exterior pic before but never one of the inside, that was across from where the Dinosaur is now. I can't find a picture of the Liverpool location, I think it's a health club now?
Yes, I think it's now a health club.

Former Howard Motors Company, then in 1938 it became Noll Motors (a Packard dealer), then after a few other things its sits (as of couple months ago) ready for reuse.

Building was built in 1927, in the "Churrigueresque" (real word just learned today - Spanish Baroque style) architecture style, and its registered as an historic structure in the US.

A least a new owner is prohibited from changing it too much with that designation. Cool old pad.

1285 E. Colorado, Pasadena, CA.
On old "Route 66" which, I learned today, went through Pasadena..

That would be a cool building to own, especially for a car guy.

Cool old art deco style building, Hohman Avenue at Doty Street, Hammond Indiana. Dual Oldsmobile/Cadillac store.

I was hoping for a happy ending, but as of 2018 it was still there but empty.

Over years some of its coolest features are gone (doorway stones, turret features bricked out, etc) , as well is changes along right side to access garage area.

Harper Motor Company, built 1928, operated as a Ford dealer until 1970, and building is still owned by Harper Family.

Seems like it was lots of other things till the Harpers bought it back in 2005, had it refurbished, and used it as their business HQ for a few years. Apparently its still an office building that available to lease.

Location is 219 First Avenue SW, Hickory, NC

I could not find this structure -- yet -- without driving Pegman around street to street where all the Mercedes dealers are today. A former Packard dealership in Santa Monica, CA. Maybe a local member can help out?

One thing for sure .. Packard dealerships - like the cars - were architecturally stunning digs in their day.

I'd estimate circa late 1930's

Recently - "1625 some street". it was still a dealership (Mercedes).

1626 Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica is what Google told me.

The former Turner-Todd Buick, from 1926 to 1943, located at 455 St. Louis St, Mobile Al.

Apparently, this whole area was "Automobile Alley" and now several old industrial structures are being converted to usages by contemporary "high tech" businesses'
