No explanation was given. Just crazy. But that’s an excellent guess. It makes sense now.

I think one car on CL I saw had holes drilled because the pot metal base studs were damaged and as the lens screws are on the forward side the cheap fix for damage studs is to drill'em out and put a Phillips head and nut through to hold it tight against the gasket. Lower or upper lens edge holes are to get the screwdriver in to tighten. There's another way to do it but you know young people these daze, never listen to anyone.

I just saw and spoke to him and they are selling them like a madman. It does take a bit of time that’s why I found the spare dash cap core. He said the only big problem is handling your vin tag. He doesn’t want any part of it. You have to remove it and then send in the dash - he does not provide the special rivets. I picked new rivets for $10 each from Julius, they are NOS or exact repros. And at $20 the extra dash was basically free.
