Just to update. I didn't have any luck with drilling the Exhaust manifold bolt. I drilled it a little off center so the bolt-out was engaging the head not just the bolt.. So to craigslist. Found a set of recently gone over heads with a cam for 600$.. More than I wanted to spend, but it was the only person getting back to me. Picked up the heads Saturday. Tore apart the engine. When I removed the timing cover I found the chain was LOOSE. I understand there's going to Be some lash. But the crank sprocket was only engaging like 4 teeth. The aluminum cam sprocket was super worn down and barely any nylon left. So off to summit Sunday morning. Bought a new timing set. Started putting everything back together. Intake manifold was a b**ch to put back on. My theory is that the fel pro head gaskets are a little taller throwing off the geometry. Got everything put back together.. Aanndd she doesn't run. Back firing like crazy. Tore the front of the engine again to see if we messed up the timing set install. It was fine. I was pulling my hair out looking for electrical issues. Worst thought was maybe the cam was a dud. Decided to replace spark plugs to see what the tips looked like. Once I replaced all of them I lazily, unconfidentally tried to start it...And.. It fired up like a champ! Got right Back to work doing touch ups and dialing the carb. Replaced both u-joints. And now I'm currently on the road to Colorado!( my buddy is driving of course). Currently driving down I80 in Illinois and she's running like a top. Thanks for the help you guys. This website has been a lifesaver.
I'll post pics when I get Back. Doesn't seem like you can post pics with an android.

Bet you had the distributor in backwards on the first try. That would explain the back firing.
