I’ve got one of these as well I picked up at a flea market for $8 a few years earlier

I have looked at 11 buses over the past three years, made offers on four of them.

Post #781 .. I shoulda bought but didn't cuz it was gone while I waffled. Turnkey, old school, "Eagle's Nest", built like a tank. The 78-87 Wanderlodges.

This 84 just came along a little too soon since I still gotta work for a living and don't yet have time to hit the road often enough to justify the cabbage.

and the right Scenicruiser, Buffalo, Eagle, or Sultana HAS got to be out there -- just like cars we just keep lookin.

IMO... there will be other good WanderLodge's available, they cost a bunch new and would possibly be in the hands of first or second owners who invested and loved them still... I think the prices have made them, mostly, stay out of the hands of the folks who would do stupid things with them... so if you like one, it's down to the maintenance it's received.

The PD4501 was always rode hard and put away wet... not that they weren't built to take it... just that they all needed a lot of love and attention to stay on the road. We know they all had at least one drive line change in their history, I would suppose many had more than one during their service years. That would put most mechanically "fresh from fleet service" about 50 years ago.

I don't know entirely what criteria the "Bus Whisperer" will be after, but I am assuming there are very few left that he would bless mechanically.

Then there's the build. I can only imagine there are a handful left that have a build out you would want to preserve. I also would guess the "Whisperer" isn't getting younger and may have his own challenges completing a major project. I know this is a dream bus for me too, and I'd LOVE to see you do this... but the BB would be so much more practical. Even as training wheels for the dream bus.

BTW... the AZ bus has been raised... and I'm torn about the use of "squared" RV windows...

Sage advice Jeff as always.

Yes, my WHisperer has disqualified every Scenicrusier .. except one .. on mechanicals and obvious high-stress, original parts STILL on the coach. He also will point out the window thing on the AZ bus plus the poor sheet metal patching that PROBABLY weakens the monocoque features.

Best one he's seen aint for sale (though I ping the owner once a year. he's 10 years older than me, put $300,000K in it, not including 30K or so to buy and transport it 20 years ago).

he thinks of the 100 or so left, maybe half of them are sound. he also gave me the $250K budget estimate if the starting point was like the AZ bus may be.

he also likes the Buffalos and says parts availability. tho poor in a general sense, is magnificent vs PD4501s. We fight when we discuss Sultanas .. he says I am nuts, I tell him stop throwin shade at four wheel front steering. :)

anyway ... the beat goes on :)

I love the look of a Buffalo but I'm not a fan of the V-drive. The Scenicruiser was the only T-drive GM ever built.

Lots of Prevosts around, 40 years newer in ready to enjoy condition at your price point and most of them don't have 100,000 miles on them if they were converted from new.

thanks. shes a Buffalo. PD 4905

another one ya gotta call on .. just not a lot of info.

My guy thinks he knows I know the tab on this bus, MINUS mechanicals of unknown condition, about $75K. Allow another $75K budget for mechanicals/bling/contingency, etc
