Sell or Restore 1960 New Yorker 4DR Sedan?

Post it up here, we should be able to help you out with a decode.

The instrument panel color looks mauve to me. This combo with the exterior color sure looked good when the car was new.

Oh Ya........ I would clean it up, put on some cheap seat covers, drive a few years or if you decide to restore it.........

Does anyone know of a site to help out? I couldn't find one[/QUOTE]

Decodeing the 56 -61, (forward look), cars can be much more challenging then the later cars. Nothing carries over.

The Chrysler historical society offers copys of the original IBM punch card, (like the build sheet), for all cars from that era along with a decode for a small fee.

I'm still trying to figure out what some of the codes on my 61 Furys fender tag mean.
The guys over at the forward look site have been helpful and there are a couple of very knowlegeable guys there. Just not as responsive as this site though.

Thanks for offering. All I have is my phone tonight, so I hope it allows me to add a pic here.

I love the car but it looks like it'll be an expensive restoration project. Like C bodies this will have to be restored for the passion, not financial gain.

I really like the car. My dad had a brick red/brown '60 Saratoga with the 3.75" stroke RB 383. As a little kid I remember 2 sisters and I called it the "shark car" and would toss treats to the sharks (3 Husky/English Shepherds) from the safety of the deck lid.

My '61 New Yorker 2drht is also mauve, but has black and white interior, the seats are white vinyl and have a basket weave pattern in the inserts.

The odd thing to me on this car was the vacuum power locks.

The door locks are a rare option and pretty neat, Is the switch dash mounted..?
I would be interested in seeing the fender tag on your car. I'm trying to determine what codes indicate specific options. There is no established "code book" for the forward look 56-61 mopars so networking might be the only way to determine the tag codes.

Looks like you need to expand the storage situation.
Will.

The bottom line left to right is the build date, tough to see in the pic but will be month and day, then the code for the dealer it was delivered to, then the body, 833=new yorker 4dr. then the trim code, (interior), and paint code, (tough to make out also but looks like a 2 tone.

Any standard equipmet on the car is not indicated on the tag. Your car is not a heavily optioned car, shows 4 options. Would have to know more about how the car is equipped to figure out what the numbers refer to. Looks like one or two basic packages. (radio, heater, wipers, etc). What power equipment does your car have...? (windows, seat, remote mirror, door locks etc).

Um, has2b, what kind of truck is that in the photo?

:hide:............... That was my Dad's truck. He owned some of all the US made iron, and from this he could give an unbiased opinion, and would have told you that Chrysler and Packard made the best vehicles.

This picture predates myself by several years and siblings, as I was the youngest of 9, but the picture represents a variety that my dad owned.

Trivia question for some of the older crowd here...

How does this line of vehicles represent 5 different major US auto manufacturers?
'54 Dodge, '51 Nash, '47 Ford, '51? Chevy, '55 Nash V8 Ambassador...

55 Nash is an American Motors product due to the merger with Hudson in 1954. I take the DeSoto as a price.

You picked the right car, but I was referring to something else about it, and how it represents a different manufacturer, not a merger.

I'll avoid prolonging this, and add that it is the same reason the '55 and '56 V8 Studebakers hauled ***.
