Slow starting when hot

so stopped by mechanic with the car who has done most of the work on her and told her the problem. we shut her done, waited a couple of minutes and she wouldnt start. He tested an the coil was not producing and spark. Waited 15 minutes and she fired right up. Coil is off on the fenderwell so could the new coil be bad?

The "mechanic" doesn't know?

Especially after this?

My mistake, he says its bad. I guess my real question ....is there anything in my setup that is destroying coils? This coil is one month old.

I too had a hard starting issue when the car was warmed up. My issue turned out to be the fuel pump. I had installed a new pump during the course of diagnosing other issues. Turns out the new pump was putting out too much pressure. I put the old pump back on and the problem was solved.

One thing to check again before you condemn the coil, did you check the ballast resistor when it would not start, they are famous for this problem, if it is good, make sure your coil is one for use with an external resistor. If you have bypassed the resistor and you coil is supposed to have one, you could burn it out to quickly.

There's a lot of reasons why the coil failed, including that it was just a bad coil. For example, too low resistance in the ballast resistor or you have it wired wrong so it bypasses the ballast etc.

You could also have the wrong coil to begin with. If you are running the Mopar ECU, you really want the run the coil that matches your system.

Thank you all. I am running the mopar ecu and the coil that mancini racing suggested (actually it came as a package deal).

thanks again for those who gave insight. I'll work on finding my arse. I'm just starting to get back into the mechanics of cars so thanks for the patience.

just eager to get a little confidence and learn from people who know. I'll have the manual open and go through everything.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but is there a way to get the engine to turnover while your under the hood by yourself? I don't really have anyone here helping me out. When I had a mustang many moons ago I could hit the starter relay while under the hood to turn the motor over. Then again that was a manual transmission so I don't remember if that made a difference.

You could use a remote starter switch...

But, why? I seldom have used mine in the number of years I worked on cars...

you can do the same with the starter relay on your car. bridge from the large + lug to the small lug with the starter wire ( can't remember the wire color off the top of my head)

That will burn the threads on the relay and make it more fun to replace later....
