Stormer's 73 Imperial Build

Haters. :angry1:

No. Not haters. At least not me but WTF are you doing putting a Mustang II front end on that car?
I'm warning you right now, if you're serious, you don't know wtf you're doing. And I don't care if you're laughing right now. We're not out of touch like you think we are. Our tastes may be far apart in style but mecanically, stupid is stupid at all ages.

Not Mustang II persay but Mustang II style rack & pinion, etc.

I know all about Mustang II "style" front ends and I knew what you meant. Still a humongous mistake. You're budgetting 10 grand for petesakes. M II kits are crap on anything over 3000 lbs.

OK, I'm listening.

Thank you. Listening is good.
You're dealing with a 48 hundred pound ship, not a 55 Ford pickup.
I know you going all out for a Pro-tourer but Rick Erhenberg has made C-bodies handle and ride like a new gen Charger. You're into bagging way too much on a car that can't be reliably and safely be bagged.

OK, I appreciate the input & I'll keep your opinion in mind when I make my final decision.

One thing for sure is that it is getting bagged though. You called that a major upgrade not long ago.

What year Ram & how much modification to the K member is required? If that came even close to bolting in it would make bagging it simple.

I'll give you my thoughts...the torsion bar suspension is one of the best all around suspensions you can have. They are smooth, reliable and very stout set-ups. Coil over, Mustang II type set-ups are way over rated..IMO. Most guys go to this kind of set-up simply because it affords them more room under their hot rods, that have minimal room to start with. No so much under the old Imp.

I have to agree with the others though....these kits "might" work for a while...but I bet you will have issues down the road a ways. Pieces wearing out prematurely, cracked and broken pieces...etc. As stated these systems were never designed for a 5K lb car. Regardless of what these manufactures say...the basic design was never intended for these big boats.

I understand the desire for the airbags....ride height control...but what do you have to give up for this convenience.

Again these are my opinions...and that is your car, and your money...so you can take or leave what I, and we, say and ultimately go your own route.

Man, I don't know. I appreciate the input & I will definitely heed the warnings but there are a whole bunch of Cadillacs out there with air bags. I do realize that the frame rails will likely need to be reinforced due to the stress points being shifted. I will proceed very cautiously & I welcome all of the feedback that I can get regarding suspension.

Thanks for your .02 though.

Mustang II's weigh between 2650-2900 lbs depending on which engine it had.

What difference does that make? I dig Chrysler C bodies just as hard as anyone else on FCBO.......just like you.

OK, no problem. I was just asking for perspective.

I'm 41. I grew up in rural Minnesota & I've mentioned before that my grandpa was a Chrysler dealer before I was born so everybody on my mom's side is Mopar crazy. My dad was a Chevy guy & I will always own a Suburban but I really got back into Mopars in a big way when the LX platform came out.

Oh, well ok since you put it like that......I'm in my thirties, I grew up in the back seats of Chryslers, Plymouths, Dodges as a boy. My very first car was a 1972 Dodge Charger and I've had a bunch of mopars ever since. I don't like Chevies, I don't like Fords, and don't talk to me about anything foreign. I intend to drive some type of mopar until the day I die. A mopar/chrysler die hard and proud of it.

Well, we can agree on a love of Mopars & a dislike of anything foreign. I too will likely always drive a Mopar but it's a good thing that they finally got their heads out of their asses. They still don't have an answer for the Suburban but the new Rams are just bad ***.

Call me a throw back, but I'm not very keen on the "new" mopars (new Challenger, Charger..). There's something missing with them....can't quite put my finger on it. Guess I've been driving too many old cars to appreciate the modern iron...abs, electronic traction control, computerized ignition, computerized fuel injection.....talking GPS directions....now touchscreens...and they don't have that starter whine any longer. When I was a kid I always knew there was one sure way of telling the difference between a Chrysler and brand x car......that gear reduction starter whine.

I don't understand this attachment to any manufacturer based on past and present. The two are so disconnected as far as the automotive industry is concerned that a loyalty to a brand today based on a brand 50 years ago makes no sense. The hottest cars at GM are Buicks of which most of there current U.S. models were introduced to the Chinese market first. These are not your (grand)father's Electras.
