Sweden 2017

Yes. At The Garlits Show 2-3 years ago. Everytime I read his posts now, I can hear his German accent and it just makes the post all the better.

He was at Carlisle this year, I thought you met him there. Weren't you there this year?

I met him briefly... thanks to @polara71 introducing him around... like the rest of my weekend this year, I had some mission I needed to go complete, so I didn't get much time with him.

BTW @commando1 wasn't there, yet, but someday we hope to get him up there for the event.

I intend to sell tickets to watch the first debate happen live :poke:

Actually both are great guys and I bet they have a blast when they finally meet in person.

Two different world's ....it's not that easy for most of us here

There are direct flights to Stockholm from Los Angeles, Chicago, New York... at least from those. It's an eight hour flight, but the leg room is more ample on those long distance flights. - So: Two different worlds? I don't get it. Northern Europe is not a jungle. On the contrary, it's among the safest places on earth. Hop on the plane! It's roughly a 600 USD round trip.

You went the wrong direction with that. It's not that easy for most of us here to hop on a plane at a whim and go away for a week.
If I get three weeks vacation it is for the wife and I to get away on a romantic interlude or to spend with kids/ family and a few local events here such as Carlisle.

This is something I'd like to attend as a visitor. We have relatives in Austria. Maybe fly into Sweden and spend a few days at the show before heading south...hmmm...
That car is from Finland. How to spot difference? License plates. Swe plates are ABC 123, when Fin plates - between numbers and aplhas. ABC-123

That's right.

Planning a trip like that can be tough. Most employers want your vacation scheduled months in advance and then there's the trend of rolling sick/personal time into vacation time. Getting the time to make a trip to Europe and spend enough time there to make the trip worthwhile can be difficult if not impossible.

While Germany might have a mandatory 4 week vacation time for employees, Americans would be lucky to get 2 weeks... Getting 4 weeks time usually involves at least 15 years of service with the same employer.... and staying at a job for 15 years or more isn't the trend anymore.

In 2009 I went on a solo 2 week trip to Europe, I flew into Paris and went out to the beaches in Normandy and took the train down to Pompeii, onto Northern Italy and finally back to Paris. I did it on $2500 including airfare nonstop from Los Angeles. When I did this I was of the mind set that I may never have the chance to do it again. When I got back I got the other Polara that led me to getting the CHP car. Now that the car is done I am looking to take another trip, the Sweden car show is high on my list and would work well in combining it with a trip into southern Norway.

I tell people that if I could do this there is no reason you couldn't, at that time money was tight, I had never traveled to another country and to do it solo. I was able to get past the language issue. My next trip will probably be shorter and travel with one other person, that should help keep the anxiety in check. So you can do a trip on a budget, just need to plan for it.

Why is it that Germany is so smart and we are so stupid? I guess it is because we have too many stupid people in this country that vote accordingly and don't have a clue what is going on.

I understand now, thanks for clarifications. Life gets in the way here, too, in spite of the "mandatory" 4 week vacation.

Btw, that black Polara vert was present at 2017 Helsinki US Car Show parking lot, too:

The center Fratzog emblem for that 70 rear Polara bumper in unobtainium. That car is one of my favourite C Bodies of all time.

I talked with Dan awhile about it. The emblem itself was missing unfortunately, just red paint. What's the story ehind it? Was it a midyear change?

If the car was built in August, it came with the Fratzog bumper.
This car was not, it was built in October

Do you have your registry info stuck to the fridge with a magnet?:poke:

I'd recommend both Paris and Rome in the off season for this purpose i.e. late Septmber/early October. Air fares and rooms are cheaper. Britta and spent 4 days in each city causally exploring both the city and reconnecting on a romantic level that doesn't seem possible anywhere else. These cities seem custom designed for couples. Nothing beats sitting on a medieval Roman patio at 8:30 at night enjoying the fabulous local cuisine and wine. Both cities seem to come to life at night.

I have a whole new impression of Sweden now, and a comparatively better one of the U.S. now that I have seen all that!

That black 71 300 coupe in this thread is my favorite of all the cars I have seen yet over there. Sweet!

Hi Steve,

the black 71 300 belongs to my friend Dan.
We visited you in spring 2016.
Factory TX9 car with partly original paint.
He bought it in Nevada some 10 years ago

I am happy to have 6 weeks of vacation each year fully paid.

We had a great trip to Carlisle with a couple of days in NYC, too.

Currently we plan to fly to the Fall Fling in October in California and meet Steve, Chris and other westcoasters again. Later on during the trip we will fly over to Florida to go to the Garlits Show and hopefully meet Tim, Will, Zack, Stan, Cantflip etc again on our three weeks tour.

Currently flight tickets could be had for around 700$ in total for all flights
