Sweden 2017

Amazing pics Julian, nice work!
I'm not saying this one is my favorite but...:wideyed:

With the exception of the Woodward Dream Cruise with reportedly 40K cars, I'm not aware of any 10K+ car shows here in the states. The Lead East expects 1400 cars. Chryslers at Carlisle boasts 3000 cars on their website. I've yet to attend this event, but hope to in the future.
The reference I was making was to the amazement of the vintage car following in Europe, and the phenomenal collection of vehicles they have amassed as displayed in the previous postings.
It is truly an amazing accomplishment to organize a car show with more than 10K cars, and almost unbelievable this is a regular event for our European friends.
I googled Power Big Meet, and was astonished when I saw this...

....and its their 40th annual event!
I'm not sure how many of the cars in attendance are of a newer vintage with this event, but the larger car shows I attend typically have possibly up to 30% new cars.
I really like the newer Chrysler 300's and Dodge cars too, but I usually walk right by the "new-car-parking-lot" at these events.
Thanks for posting all the pics. Amazing cars over there.

the amount of modern cars varies depending on the european country.

If you talk about the swedish events shown here: They are just for classic cars. If there is really a modern american car attending it is usually another european driving up with his modern car to the show. Look at the background on the grasfield of Julians pics: You will hardly see any modern american cars. So in the swedish meeting the modern cars are about 1-2% of the participants and definetly more than 95% are old american cars. Please notice there is usally no kind of organized parking so you have to walk all over the show which makes it tough. Pics taken on asphalt are around town from several meeting points but are not official meeting ground so you might see regular people driving around in their Volvos.

The Carlisle Mopar show was different. Officially it had 3.000 participants in total but less than the half of the cars are real classics pre 1980. There is a huge amount of modern cars not only Challengers and Charger but Dodge Rams, Jeeps Cherokees, Chrysler 300s etcetc as it is cheaper to enter the show with a modern car if you want to stay the complete weekend. But parking is organized so you can leave the modern cars alone.

Most of those Metrics are owned by guys with Classics. Many of those dont drive their old car to Carlisle because of the heat or the fuel mileage

I usually dont believe the claim on attendances regardless of where they are at. Most embellish their numbers to have a better appeal to sponsors or people looking to go to a large event.

24000 cars sounds like a lot. Woodwards 40000 doesnt seem possible. Carlisle has in the past claimed 50000 people through the gates. That could be true if they counted me and everyone else each day we drove through.

I wouldn't doubt that. Most multi-day events count heads entering daily, then total those daily counts at the end.

I know.

There are always "reasons" why people come with a modern car.
Some are valid to me ie as Zack whos Monaco broke down on the way up to Carlisle or if the car is in the middle of a resto.

But just taking the modern car due its comfort, AC etc is a "no go" for me.

I always travel inside europe with my old Mopars, driving it up to sweden is always a 2000 mile roundtrip and not always comfortable (driving a HiPo B-body with short gears 3,54 or 4,10).

But attending a show without an old Mopar is like just being "half" there to me.

The sky at the beach this evening was absolutelly stunning! Unfortunately, to shoot pictures of the cars on the cruising route, I had to shoot against the sun. So the most beautiful pictures of this evening are from parked cars at the side of the road.

Ok, as promised, here is the rest of the photos. There are BIG partys around the whole town after the car shows until the morning hours every night! And boy, the swedes are crazy, but absolutely funny! ;)
A few impressions in pictures below, but the whole gallery can be viewed in my Dropbox again.

The f*cked up cars are called "Raggar bil" and the people are "Auto punks" if you want. Pretty fun to watch them go crazy and have a lot of fun driving around, drinking and playing music LOUD!

Half is better than nothing, but I do agree... I had a blast with the "parts car" and was surprised at how well received she was, but the response the 4 door Imperial got was amazing... folks just couldn't stop hooting and hollering as I drove her.

I guess there are less regulations on the condition a classic should be in in this part of Europe?

yes.
The "junk" cars you see are something scandinavian (called Raggare)
They wouldn't pass inspection in european mainland because of their cosmetical condition. Even though technically they are usually good (ie brakes, steering has no play, no rust on frame or important parts etc) and have to be well maintained.

I have a whole new impression of Sweden now, and a comparatively better one of the U.S. now that I have seen all that!

That black 71 300 coupe in this thread is my favorite of all the cars I have seen yet over there. Sweet!

Great pics, thanks for sharing!

FWIW, they do the "Syracuse Nationals" near me with over 8000 pre 85 cars. It's the same weekend as Chryslers at Carlisle, so I don't attend.
